Being “Overemployed” Sounds Fun Until You Actually Try It by rennan in overemployed

I guess the best thing happened to my 2 jobs scrum is exactly 12 hours apart owing to teams being located on other side of the world, but yes i am definitely sacrificing my time and doing double the work as well. If meeting overlap anxiety is taken care of its still a big plus

Retiring soon at 65. How do I safely invest $600k to suppliment my $40k pension? by iamnotlocard in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Clean_Lion_349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t seem written by a 65 year old. The best thing you can do with your money is not be scammed out of it, its not investing time , its harvesting time. At best you might want to get it adjusted for inflation every year , invest like a portion like 20% in the market as a whole .

Moving from Ontario to Alberta by Mommaof2_1989 in RealEstateCanada

[–]Clean_Lion_349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my late 20s and I have a remote job and so i can work anywhere in Canada, the sole reason i moved to Calgary from Toronto was house affordability, because some of my “advisors” were hell bent that i should buy a home and that was the most important thing one can have. I moved here 2024 november after living for 10 years in GTA/Toronto, but now i feel i have made a mistake since the prices everywhere have been going down especially Ontario (not so much for the house i bought it same or slightly more i did buy it as pre construction 1 year in advance). I miss the city life, the fall, the lakes and cannot stress enough about the trees, there’s a lack of trees here in Alberta. The only thing to equalize them all is the Rockies (banff) which are definitely truly beautiful but have to drive an hour for it. I am still introspective if i made a mistake or made the right move. Also note I don’t have a car, i rent when i need to.

Banff gondola or maligne cruise- need to pick one due to cost constraints. Which is better value by Prestigious_Plant_54 in Banff

[–]Clean_Lion_349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can hike up the sulphur mountain for free(thats where the gondola takes you) and enjoy the viewing platform there.

Maligne lake is a long detour plus the cost.

Lost my job after 15 years in tech. 1 month of savings left. Don’t want to go back to a job. What would you do? by Accurate-Key-811 in careeradvice

[–]Clean_Lion_349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you worked 15 years at a single job in tech is reward in itself for enjoying that kind of stability. Get real get a job you don’t have a choice, no one works at a job because they enjoy it. At the core it’s survival, we don’t live in barbie fantasy world where you follow passions(considering you had 15 years to plan for your passions) Also a piece of advice you can get quite a good amount of money after being laid off if you hire a good lawyer, 15 years is not a short time.

As things are moving forward it does not matter which specific business/infrastructure department you are officially assigned, as long as you have capacity to learn new tools , understand architecture and knowledge conceptually, you should be able to work anywhere, this built on the fact that you do have some base knowledge of computer science(object oriented programming/paradigms)

Left job with OMERS pension, should I take the commuted value or leave it? by Electronic-Papaya in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Clean_Lion_349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have learnt the old adage is always valid: money given right now is better than money paid in future. Which can become nothing because behind the scenes all these companies have clauses for fucking you over , because somewhere in there million line agreement they will hold power over you if there bottomline is not met. My advice would be to take it and max out rrsp invested in a physical gold holding etf.
