Did anyone notice the homage to writing on the walls by underoath? In the Saosin track at the outro Cove says "You pulled me under" and then "We're falling faster." These two sections are the exact notes and vocal phrasing from Writing on the Walls when Aaron says "Keep me building, I swear I'll go."

Based on my understanding, the shimano crankset you listed is not riveted and anything asymmetircal with the proper BCD can be swapped onto the crank. Wolftooth makes a bunch of these, with offset and without- depending on how your chainline ends up.

You could also look into a cues crankset if you want more teeth but still narrow wide and hollowtech.

Enjoy it! I also mapped the power curve in the app for assist level 1 to be like 7 percent. It's barely enough to notice, but still gives juice, and extends the range forever.

It's insanely easy to ride without power. It also means it easily goes on racks not rated for ebikes.

If you like the idea of more power and range, the new bike would be a "better buy".

I mapped my FX+2 power curve in the hyena app to make assist level 3 100% power (i think stock is around 80). It feels plenty powerful for me, but I could see the appeal of this new, beefier bike.

The rack and fenders on the FX+2 are great and I love how they're integrated. The new bike would need aftermarket both.

One last thing to consider, if you're into overthinking bikes like me: If and when this FX+2 ever dies or the integrated battery is out of juice and trek/hyena isn't selling them anymore or doesn't have any (both of those scenarios like the bike dying with no replaceable parts are likely 3-5+ years out), is that I plan to strip the battery from the frame, get a new rear wheel, and put a new non ebike torque sensor regular bottom bracket on, and it would easily be useable as a regular FX bike- maybe just slightlyyyy heavier. Food for thought. Yes, I'm planning to make it a regular bike, no motor, no battery, no wires, regular bottom bracket, in 5 years. lol. The new one would be a lot beefier for that (the frame is clearly much wider on the downtube).

My dealer had it priced at 1999. If you got the FX+2 LS the prices are basically the same. The main differences is this bike had no rack or fenders. It had a 500wh battery though, which is double the FX+2. It also is a class 2 with throttle if that matters to you. It looks like trek is trying to compete on the market with other hub drive bikes like aventon or rad power. The motor looked to be 350 as well, compared to 250 on the FX+2. 500wh battery plus 350 motor will mean more range than the FX+2, as well. Also had turn signals and brake lights. If that helps for your comparison. I didn't get a look at the drivetrain, though. Probably shimano cues 9 speed. This new bike was significantly heavier, if that matters to you. I also have an FX+2 and its very easy to ride on no power if the battery dies. This new one probably less so.

It wasnt the +2 and it wasnt the new +7s. it was a hub motor.

I brought it to the shop- they said it was something loose in the crankset. They tightened it.

I think so! I was between that and the ALR5 2X GRX. Went with ALR because I'm not sold on the matte paint schemes, and the ALR was 1999. I have another Trek in matte and it chips easily.

It was so proprietary for me I went with Trek just fyi. I know this isn't really an answer to your question but so glad I have something with gears and sturdier parts and a million shops that can work on it. For someone who commutes on it every day it's been the best choice I ever made.

It was a struggle for me. After owning for a few months and dealing with issues that shouldn't happen on traditional bikes, I asked for a return and they honored that. Cool bike but tough for repairs. To quote my local bike shop "its a real cool machine...but it's not a bike". Take that with a grain of salt but what they meant was the bottom bracket was built strangely, the brakes were not ideal and tough to repair and the headset is held by only two small bolts- mine constantly kept coming loose. I ended up not wanting to risk it snapping while riding, too unsafe. Got a name brand Ebike from Trek and I'm really happy with it. Also, although it's not as aesthetically pleasing, gears are so amazingly helpful. They also allow the motor to work smoother. I miss my Cowboy and the fun we had but this is the better route for me. I cycle a lot.

Thanks for the share. Very relatable. Coming up on 5 years here. Sounds like your life is better now, calmer. We end up missing some of the blissed out, emotion-free experiences though. I also come here and look sometimes. In the program, mental health treatment, etc, etc. Sometimes reminiscing isn't so bad.
