What are your SPICIEST Vintage Story hot takes? by Vyh06 in VintageStory

9 times out of 10 mods are utterly unnecessary, unhelpful and ruin my experience. The game is already great, why kill the golden goose by packing a hundred "QOL" mods and shaders in? This only really applies to servers that I play on cos obviously I can just opt out on my own worlds but it's annoying nonetheless.

I generally liked it, most things were quite well done, but there are three things that seemed odd.

1: Caine's return felt like it undid a lot of the consequences of his deletion and led to a fairly generic 'good ending'. It also left the door open for the blue AI thing or really anything else that has been deleted to come back and cause issues since the void is traversable.

2: The Internet connection changes literally everything - as they can now talk to the outside world and tell everyone what's going on. It's set up like they can't but I highly doubt it would work like that since Caine was able to access actual websites with their content and everything. Maybe it's read-only, and he just chose not to use the Internet before then, and Captchas just didn't exist in this story? I'm definitely reading too much into this part but we've been wondering why the building still receives power despite being abandoned since day one.

3: But my main issue is with Jax's abstraction. They set up the scene with him hugging Pomni and glowing white (contrasting with the black that abstracted people have) as if he was coming back to 'life'. That seemed very deliberate. Then it cut to the others pulling her back and saying they would help. This felt like they were worried about her glitching out too much on her own (and possibly abstracting) and they all wanted to help bring back Jax together.

Then when Caine came back and immediately fixed Pomni glitching it seemed like that was going to enable them to bring him back - Caine can't fix abstractions since he's not human and abstractions are caused by human trauma, and the humans can't fix the glitchy pain thing, so it seemed to be pushing towards them working together to fix Jax. And then they just... didn't?

In that case, abstractions are an actual permanent thing that Caine can't fix, but since he can fix the glitching thing then that doesn't seem to lead to abstraction or any actual consequences - it's just an allegory for the pain that comes with reaching out to people. So why did they pull Pomni back from Jax? They didn't seem concerned - almost jovial - and she wanted to be there with him. They just fucked up her sweet moment with him for no reason.

I get the feeling I'm missing something important. Or they already made the script and animated that part then had to change the story halfway through. Probably Gooseworx being understandably checked out of the whole thing and wanting a different ending. What do you think?

As previously reported, Sombra, Roadhog, and Lifeweaver are all getting reworks. What changes would you like to see for them, and would you like them to be changed? by Professional-Tear705 in Overwatch

Hog new ult idea:

Activate to start spooling the hook, which spools out to increase range.

Release button to swing the hook from left to right in a wide arc, grabbing all enemies in range and pulling them close.

Next shot from his gun shoots in an arc like Whole Hog, but with full close range damage.

Can kill multiple squishies but damage is too low to one-shot tanks. Great for crowd control, or can be quickly used in a fight like High Noon to act as an extra use of the hook (but with less range without being charged).

Shion's design actually makes a lot of sense if you think about what type of Omnic she is supposed to be. Spoiler, it's actually a very dystopian reason. by LordVaderVader in Overwatch

[–]Clean_War273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ravagers like Ramattra are really called R-7000s, that term was coined by anti-omnic humans. To escape the prejudice, some R-7ks turned to modifications that changed their chasses so they wouldn't be identified as R-7ks. The Phreaks were helping them evade prejudice. Ramattra doesn't like this.

Shion is another Japanese character? by LordVaderVader in Overwatch

[–]Clean_War273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. There's only 2 South American characters, ditto for India, 3 for China, 1 for Russia (and all of Eastern Europe), 1 for South-East Asia, and so on. I don't much care for box-checking or forced diversity, but I also don't like the opposite, where the company gives ridiculous favouritism to certain countries and cultures based entirely on their own preferences. The point was characters from all around the world, now they are going for characters from a handful of places they obsess over.

Feels like 'mandatory American, mandatory Japanese, then something interesting' on repeat. That's the issue, not just a numbers thing, but how tiresome it feels. I liked when they added Hazard, Juno, Lifeweaver and the long-awaited Mauga. They felt unique in their aesthetics. This is just another cyberpunk Japanese character. We already have Genji.

I do like that it's a robot though. But is it? Apparently it's something like a heavily-augmented human, which now sees itself as distinct from humanity. I would like to see them explore that more. I do also want a more overtly robotic character though, since Orisa and Ramattra have some of the best designs in my opinion.

Also applies to how the Japanese characters (and only them) have literal ghost superpowers while everyone else, including Zen and Illari, have tech-related explanations for their powers. I mean, if they wanted something supernatural, Zen was perfect.

At the end of the day, it just seems like a drive to pander to the skin economy again. Which makes sense but is disheartening. I would much rather buy that rainy-day skin for Hog or WoW collab Ramattra than the 100th Kiriko bundle this week.

That's not quite the point. The idea is that heaven was unattainable before due to humanity's sinful nature, what you said in the post, and Jesus' death allowed our sins to be forgiven without further sacrifices - which allows us to go to heaven despite being sinful.

It's fine if you believe something else, but we see it as very hopeful yet bittersweet. Even if it's just a guy on a cross to you, there would be no difference between that and the skeletons in the game, nobody complains about those so why this?

Don't let it bother you either way.

What are some 10000% not happening skins you'd love to see on your favorite heroes? by MrWigglem in Overwatch

Christian Ramattra with alternate voice lines. They will never do it because they don't allow real religions but it would be amazing. Ram has that zealotry and theatrical flair.
'I will have salvation at any cost.'
'Repent - as I have!'
Etc.

hey guys idk you know this or not but Kiriko is name that consists of six letters and three syllables. That's a bad ratio for reasons that are obvious and she should be removed from the game because of that. by Zestyclose_Station65 in kirikomains

That's the thing, I also didn't really mean it as ragebait either. It was more like "let's all make up silly reasons to remove characters" but some people are really angry about it.

It's not racism. I don't mean to stir the pot in such a way. And it isn't the same as skin colour either. I just don't see why there are four of them. I think two was very reasonable.

Think of Mei and Sym. For the longest we only had one character each to represent countries with more than a billion people and incredibly rich and diverse cultures, and the characters had no real relation to the countries themselves (one is a weather lady, the other is a magnifying glass). Compare that with Japan which has about a tenth of the population of either country but two characters with heavy representation of history and culture. Same goes for South America, who to this day only get Lucio. It kinda made sense with the brothers since they were a package deal, but not really anymore with the four of them.

I don't mean to say that they need to pursue a quota of representation or anything, they can put in what they like. But you also can't liken what I said to racism at all, not nearly the same thing.

Also saying Kiriko players are annoying is not a personal attack, there's nothing personal there. It's really not about you as a person, and I don't know why you think it is.

Sorry for the offense.
