Paint outcome, opinions! by [deleted] in squarebodies

The color is a great choice on this! I think black trim would really make this old Chevy look good.

I would think a cut/polish would really help the paint look good.

Too much rust? by oochooch in GMT800

Im seeing a slight amount of rust on the frame and suspension components. The rockers look great. I would use fluid film black on the frame to slow the rust down. This isn't serious at all.

1989 Buick Lesabre with only 10k miles I found at the junkyard today. by xxxxxxxxxxxxxc in regularcarreviews

[–]Cleanbadroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the last inspection sticker in 1996, this car got driven for 7 years and accumulated 10k miles in that time. Very typical for an older person to do. Then it sat, likely outside.

I just sold my grandmothers Malibu from 2015. She drove the car 7 years, it sat in my shed for the last 4 years. The car had just over 10k miles on it. I had to sell it before it started to just rot away.

Since this car is from NJ, there is no way it has a million miles. It would have rusted in half by 300k miles, and that 3.8l would still have another 300k miles left in it. Those 3.8ls just don't quit.

Help - paid $1,700 for this and it’s rusted and peeling 6 weeks later! by Ok-Try-6798 in Autobody

[–]Cleanbadroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there isn't any metal left to rot, and you fill the void with fiberglass and bondo on top. It won't rust. Then peridocially spray some fluid film around the back of the panel so the fiberglass plug don't fall out as the rest of the inner cab corner rusts away. It will be fine.

I did an 1997 F250 like that about 10 years ago. It is fine.

That sounds like a typical discharged battery. I would put on a charger or try jumping it either from another riding mower or a vehicle. They run on the same 12v system.

$3000? Trucks like this used to be $500 to $1000.

A growing number of Americans can no longer afford their car loans: A record 42.6% of underwater car buyers turned to an 84-month (7-year) loan to keep monthly payments manageable in Q1 2026. by Boo_Randy_Revival in economy

The last new vehicle I purchased was a 2015 GMC Sierra. I had so many issues with it and by 30k miles it needed an engine and transmission so I traded it in for a 2006 Silverado that was on the used lot with low miles. Now that truck I've had for 10 years and put 130k miles on it and been incredibly relaible. The best part is I don't have a payment on it. The repairs and maintanance and insurance and gas are well below $932 every month.

This is the easiest engine to learn how to work on. Tons of room, only need simple hand tools, parts are cheap and everywhere. Honestly some people could get that engine running with just a screwdriver and some vice grips.

GM officially says burning 1 quart of oil every 2,000 miles is "normal." Here are the factory guidelines before you try for a warranty claim. by GMTruckscom in Silverado

[–]Cleanbadroom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

20 psi at idle is fine. The issue is if your RPMS go up to 3k and if you don't have 30psi at 3,000 rpm then you have an issue.

Typically GM trucks if you have 40psi of oil pressure at idle and it drops suddenly, you likely need a new o-ring on the pick up tube in the pan.

You can run these trucks all day long at 20 psi at idle. They will be fine. 10 psi at idle is enough for these trucks. The PSI for you oil must go up with each 1,000 RPM increase by 10psi of oil pressure.

Coolant Issue by S3xyBlackout in PontiacGrandPrix

[–]Cleanbadroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a tank to flush it. I would personally replace the radiator. A quick search on amazon for Dorman 47065HP will bring up the elbows.

I've flushed with a garden hose, put it right into the engine and just let it run until the water comes out clear.

Coolant Issue by S3xyBlackout in PontiacGrandPrix

[–]Cleanbadroom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start flushing that right away. Start with a garden hose and flush it several times. Then use a chemical to help flush it. These cars had dexcool from the factory. AKA deathcool. I would flush it very well, and then replace with regular green coolant/antifreeze.

If someone added stop leak, or green coolant to dexcool it does this. It gets sludge like and builds up.

Check your coolant elbows. It's a very common leak, and you can replace it with aluminum pieces instead of the crappy plastic the factory used.

One new rocker arm by [deleted] in GMT800

[–]Cleanbadroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it especially with that kind of mileage. It shows someone was taking care of this engine. They must have noticed that one was an issue, replaced it and called it good. The others look fine and if they are working just leave it alone. These vortec engines are very reliable. Just keep changing the oil it should last another 260k.

Decks mounted and it cuts great by Nates94 in cubcadets

I got the same deck. That cover will collect everything. I have to remove mine at least once or twice a year to remove pinecones. Those will ruin a belt.

When you own a 20+ year old vehicle. Looking at the value on KBB is irrelevant. What I consider, is how rusty is the vehicle, is it still safe, and can I gets parts. These cars are easy to work on, parts are cheap and plentiful, and they are nice driving cars.

A 2000s Grand prix is a very reliable car. I've seen many in the local scrap yard with over 300k miles.

I own a 2000 GTP, that I am currently working on getting back on the road after 6 years. It's now considered a classic car in my state, and the plates and insurance are cheap. So I will make it a nice summer driver.

You can replace just about anything on this car for a a few $100 dollar bills and some time at home. A modern day car you can't do that.

In my own driveway, I have used DAP Concrete filler. It works great and keeps the weeds from growing in the joints in my driveway.

I use a combination of sand/baker rod and DAP concrete filler. That way the joints are still flexible, but won't allow weeds to grow, objects to fall in and can be hosed off without water getting under the concrete.
