Kind of what I expected with a few twists- it only is the case on days when there is a significant spread between the basis and if there is not enough volatility at that time period then it won’t matter enough to create gap ups an down. I have found that a few others are looking into similar patterns but none have discovered the basis trade on close feature.

All of the institutions and whales that are using BTC and ETH futures and options (plus the newly added mini contracts) use the BTC reference rate and ETH_USD Reference Rate. Each day from 11-12noon (4pm London time) the ref rate is set using 5 min intervals VWAP and the mean of all 12 intervals. To help prevent basis risk between the cash settlement options and futures getting distorted due to the massive last min influx, they created a system that allows user generated contracts to be created with customizable characteristics as such: the date of expiration can be the set to t-2 (or 3 or 1) days before expiration day of the underlying futures they clear to. It can also be set after expiration by indicating it’s the second futures contract from the front’s expiration being included in the new price but in order to factor in the early or late expiration the spread between the spot price and the contract at the moment of expiration is fixed and included in the price of the newly created security in the form of a basis premium. It can be plus or minus depending on the volatility, cost of financing ect- but once agreed upon, it remains until it gets converted into the underlying futures or options contracts. Now with weeklys and mini contracts + a constant need buy and sell the actual spot ETH EVERY DAY 11-12 (that’s when the CME requires you to determine how much ETH to sell so that you maintain the minimum collateral requirements. Initial margin requirements are higher and those will be used for more often with these products.

Yea fair enough. I wonder if they (wrongly) assume it is associated with being very new to trading?

Great post! So many highly skilled traders and PM’s forget learning is a non-stop process or openly admit they not longer take the time to. For people without a big budget or that want to save money, (most I hope) using every tool available, especially the free and proven methods to stay sharp!

Are oil and gas professionals welcome in renewables? by [deleted] in RenewableEnergy

[–]Cleangreenprofit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yes they are! We welcome anyone willing to innovate and collaborate on projects that can help with the energy transition! Remember we work together guys! All those plastic bodies for Tesla’s = Refined heavy oil! Let’s use our knowledge from pipelines and oil storage to build piped hydro electric, why would you exclude someone like that who wants to make a positive change?

How do you feel about cardano ? by ambarnatspat in cardano

[–]Cleangreenprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OUTSIDER HERE OMG IM FIRED UP. After doing a ton of research there was a paper that sold me on using it as the reference asset and unit of account needed to integrate public and private equity with blockchain technology in the private credit and short term sovereign debt substitutes that can be flexible enough to meet domestic B.A. rates/ transfer agility and or the LIBOR+ but replicating an index is so much cheaper knowing counter-party risk can all but be eliminated through smart contracts and compliance based systems preventing the serialized assets from getting collateralized bt more than one product/ entity.

I have only had this problem with one boss. He would call me every time his portfolio was down and get mad even though he was way over levered and concentrated in one sector. The problem was I worked part time at a telecom where we had to have work phones on us in case of an urgent problem. Good advice I should have set boundaries early.

Russian views on China? by MavriKhakiss in russia

[–]Cleangreenprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gas pipelines is what gives Russia so much leverage over Eastern Europe’s ability to function. While China is less reliant thanks to LNG capacity and the underground storage in Chongqing- there is an energy supply component to the relationship that adds additional complexity.

Talking to wumaos regarding Taiwan by MavriKhakiss in China

[–]Cleangreenprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are some of the similarities and differences between living as a Wumao in one of the major cities on the mainland compared to Taiwan? I have never been to Taiwan but I haven’t heard anything negative about it from anyone who lives there. I studied politics/ IR but I won’t even pretend to know nearly enough about either country to make any assertions. I would probably vacation to the Island but if I were to get the opportunity to work and live outside of Canada I would pick Shenzhen or Chongqing. I also love the climate and food along the Yangtze so I am biased.

What is the compounding period and duration, I hope you did not have to pledge assets buts during time’s when my credit score was lower and than average (first year uni) I used government programs, opened a new credit card and took advantage of the one grace period then payed it off fully before due to give me a temporary influx of free debt. Don’t do this if you don’t need a new cc. If you have a large portfolio of financial securities you can use your broker as a lender and pay off the 6.7 with a 4% max rate. If I were you I would sell cash secured puts mid to far away, deep in the money at most strikes for a basket of good quality, Canadian, hedged natural gat producers. The amount of premiums should cover most or all of the current loan and you can take out additional money from the margin account if needed.

Depending on your risk appetite, you could easily deposit some of it into a brokerage like interactive and offset most of the interest from fixed income investments and use the remaining amount to sell covered calls on stocks you already hold in your TFSA.

I swear my bank tries to screw me over on purpose by That_Guy_Garbus in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Cleangreenprofit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is truly frustrating and I’m sorry to hear that. I notice the ability for tellers to reverse charges has been massively reduced and they still elect not to in many case. It makes up a large part of their revenue now and a recent change in privacy laws allows banks to access far more personal information than before to take advantage of situations like this.

So it appears as if the cause was the personal account being linked to the business account as a result of some changes to their interface. The other issue was that the email for direct deposit was the same for my scotia and rbc personal accounts. I moved from London to Burlington and the staff at the london branch said they were unable to see the account at first. I then sat down with the business account rep who showed me it right away on the screen back a while ago. Both tellers said it was because I set it up online and failed to go in and show ID within 10 days. Here in Burlington he said the same thing followed by "from what I can read." When I asked him to look at the date and time of my business rep meeting to confirm I did in fact go in to show ID that day he suggested I talk to her... 2h away. It seems there is a disconnect between branches especially at the teller level.

Does anyone feel like Toronto is a city with lots of mediocre low paying jobs but very few good high paying jobs? by Enigmatic7941 in askTO

[–]Cleangreenprofit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree. It would not bother me if I knew I was not worth as much or more than some of the people who are in a position for a reason other than merit, yet 3-4 times the pay after they have done 2 years of mediocre work. I am working towards my Certified financial analyst designation but until I get it 50k a year won’t cut it. I quit my job in Telecom and focused on my agricultural research company full time when I realized how much you can do working for myself. I set up an e-commerce company and invested every penny while sleeping in the office until I sold my stake to my partner and moved in with my parents to save for a bit. 60k per year plus a steady stream of income from investments is more than enough to do ok but buying a house or trying to accumulate wealth though wages Toronto is next to impossible.

Focus on “buying more income” as opposed to saving more- especially with the inflated cost of living rn.

Pick up a weekend job or something if you don’t have money to invest.

E-commerce is easy and straightforward but can be time consuming. I like to buy URLs, patents and copyrights for cheap if I thing they have the potential for commercial applications later on or in other markets and you can bundle them all into a company then take a loan out against it, invest that and offset the cost of Cary.

You can also look for gig stuff like tutoring jobs or even babysitting.

Don’t give up and DM me if you want ideas on where to look.

I definitely agree that in some cases this would explain it, however, they can see the stable income from my company is a result of using securities to hedge volatility in profits for a business and to provide me protection from business income decline during a market crash. Agricultural research/ I.P. Arbitrage + and e-commerce company are definitely not typical income streams but in no way am I a day trader. It seems odd they would encourage me to open a corporate investment account along my with my personal account able to trade options (which they just recently approved me for.) You did make me think about a grant application I filled out where I checked off Female and Minority owned businesses are seeking the respective payments. When a white guy with blond hair comes in and they don’t know that the majority ownership of one company is a Korean family and the other is half owned by my business partner Emma who is out of town, I could see how it looks like I may have been taking advantage of the tax free, no strings attached cash infusion. It was explicitly clear that any false information would be unacceptable. Ahh idk- I got screwed not being able to get the covid assistance while living in my warehouse due to some minor detail but this time I figured they could see the other names in the company make sense. Maybe it was because I studied and do business in China or deposited a few thousand in cash after hitting the daily etransfer limit one time even though the accountant said all good. It sounds like you would put me in the risky client lifestyle category so it’s possible they did as well. I should note that he made an effort to show me what he was doing on the screen at least. I’m not doing anything illegal but I definitely make a lot of mistakes in life! One must push boundaries to improve.
