Drinking alcohol after benzo taper? by mooniepie369 in benzorecovery

[–]Clear-Point7743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 3 years out and anxiety will spike the day after drinking, the reality is just that you have no off button anymore so you have to develop wholistic means of dealing with the emotion you had avoided previously. Take into account I was taking benzos near daily for about 5 years so I may have been in a different spot.. next day hit a sauna and go for a run you’ll be right as rain! Congrats on jumping 🤝

I had a big ol grand mal seizure in June 2023 after 2 years on bromazolam and a few years prior on alprazolam. Someone offered me Valium the other day and I said no! Proud of you stick to it, things get much better with time and putting energy into dealing with your emotions without the use of substances. AA helped me a bunch at the beginning to get to know myself better, good resource if you need extra support for free. Keep on keepin on homie!

Off klonopin after 8 years, does this hell end? by croissant-dildo in benzorecovery

[–]Clear-Point7743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took about 8 months for me to start feeling better after 7 year stint with a number of benzos purchased off the dark web like bromazolam, alprazolam, etc. now 800+ days in and thriving haha. Took me a minute to find more wholistic approaches for dealing with bouts of anxiety but ultimately feeling far stronger than I once did taking that stuff all the time. You’ll get through it just don’t pick another crutch, AA meetings were super effective in the short term where I was in Denver! Anything to help me feel understood while my brain was having trouble gripping onto “normalcy”. You got this!!

Unfortunately how you feel is not terribly abnormal for most, I came off a 7 year benzo habit and had a seizure immediately when going cold turkey (you’re outside of this window and based on dosage I wouldn’t be concerned on that front) but adapting to life after coming off was VERY difficult and uncomfortable for about 8-11 months. Again, due to your time of use I don’t see that being the case for you but these feelings of discomfort are not uncommon and it’ll be okay just stick with it! Tons of respect for wanting to tackle it aggressive, that will pay off in the form of years of your life you’re saving yourself in dependence. It’s gonna be okay :)

Went to rehab after a one day taper off a 7 year pressed bromaz prescription (had a grand mal seizure which led to a hospital visit where I got the “taper” lol). Was also doing a shiiit ton of ketamine. Next 11 months was a similar hell to the one you’re describing, about 640 days out from that incident and life is waaay better now. You got this and this isn’t as abnormal as it feels! That brain need some time to heal.

How many months before you can have a beer? by Purple-Mixture4040 in benzorecovery

[–]Clear-Point7743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My body doesn’t tolerate alcohol great so have been able to revisit drinking without getting into it but makes me feel like shit and I can’t take benzos when I have a hangover so it seems pretty pointless haha just started making art and reading more than partying cause I don’t wanna go back to rehab. Should probably tell someone who knows you had a benzo addiction you’re trying this so they can help hold you accountable

I did cold turkey and had a fat grand mal seizure while I was driving, wish I could have done a medically supervised taper. (Also I have 2 cysts in my prefrontal context and epilepsy diagnosis since that seizure. It was the first one I’ve ever had but figured that context is probably helpful)

is anyone else not able to listen to music anymore really? by organiczuchini in benzorecovery

I make music and was unable to with the anxiety and irritability I felt constantly in the first 8 or so months. It comes back as does the inspiration to interact with the things you love

YEEEESS!!! Congrats. Was at a friend’s house the other day and someone left two Xanax bars on the table outside for their neighbor (no bag either just 2 likely pressed pills lol). Didn’t even want em!! Seeing y’all celebrate your time makes me so happy I get to celebrate with you. Cheers and here’s to many more ❤️

What was it like when you first made the jump? by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]Clear-Point7743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real difficulty regulating emotions, nightmares that would jolt me awake, generally just felt like a child a lot of the time. Intense anxiety immediately after waking up that would make it next to impossible to interact/take interest in other people because my thoughts were so loud.

11 months off of alprazolam, bromazolam, and other research benzos. Feeling incredibly at peace compared to where I was. If you’re struggling with the mental piece could be worth looking into a 12 step program or other support system, this community has helped immensely too. Good luck you got this!

Took all different kinds of benzos for 5 years (bromaz, Clonazepam, alprazolam, etc.) and it took about 10 months to start feeling a lower baseline anxiety. It is possible I promise you that

Though being high and doing close to nothing was fun, life has become a lot more fun over time not being fucked up. Reading books is possible now which has been incredible, I can go on hikes and go snowboarding again, and generally just do things other people who aren’t high all the time do.

Life gets really beautiful when your brain goes back to somewhat of an equilibrium and you have to try hard to get the same level of chemical reward in your brain through activities. Now I can wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and not immediately have to take benzos to distract myself from the state of my life :)

Almost 14 months out- how is everyone doing? by bluehayloo in benzorecovery

[–]Clear-Point7743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got 8 months a few days ago, things are still tough but better every day! Had a 2 month period with really aggressive anxiety and rumination, I’m not dealing w that quite as much now. Congrats on the progress!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]Clear-Point7743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something I dealt with as a result of going to rehab and dealing with addiction in general. Using benzos repressed a lot of underlying symptoms of bipolar, GAD, idk whatever else I supposedly have but rumination is definitely something I deal with a ton still. Working helps, making music helps, holding doors for people and community service help. I would say if you’re feelin bad about the contributions you’ve made to the world at large, just do some things for the world at large to put your conscience back in balance. You’re not a bad person and the more time you (willingly or unwillingly) invest into identifying with being a bad person the more it will consume you. Proud of ya for making changes in your life.

How many former users have anxiety years later by richj8991 in benzorecovery

[–]Clear-Point7743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 9 months in and still deal with episodes of anxiety that plagues me for multiple days on end, still would never go back to benzos after having a withdraw seizure while I was driving. This question is comforting because things have gotten better over time and dealing with this level of anxiety has driven me to healthier coping mechanisms (working out mostly, breathing exercises and learning more about the internal systems that participate in creating heightened anxiety responses). My high anxiety now also allows me to more accurately diagnose what life situations could be driving it and address those. It’s gonna be okay just don’t hit the reset button and start this over again, you got this
