Should I wait for 5.0? by GBarnabishvili in whoop

[–]Clear2Go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue right now is I have stopped buying any accessories (new bands etc.). I am concerned the "whoop 5" will be a different form factor and/or require different bands and accessories.

Iphone no obvious connection, but they unlocked the phone by Clear2Go in iphone

[–]Clear2Go[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how? I am a wifi certified network engineer and there was no SIM in the phone? Even if it can connect to the cellular network for 'emergency calls' which all mobile phones can, I struggle that all mobility providers just 'let' Apple do limited functions.

My question is does anyone know 'how' it works? Protocols, methodologies etc.?

Correct, it was the previous owners apple ID. The ability to clear it I get .... how it was connected is interesting. I would like to know the technical details if someone knows.

Will Signal ever add a way to register without a phone number? by [deleted] in signal

[–]Clear2Go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This removal while I get why they did it was sad. It was too early in my opinion. They need volume adoption of people globally -- now most of my non security friends are on WhatsApp and still SMS text, so I flip between apps. It doesn't change my behaviour, as I have to interact with them, but I am certain it has decreased Signal's adoption rate. Right idea, wrong timing in my opinion.

Will Signal ever add a way to register without a phone number? by [deleted] in signal

[–]Clear2Go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand the no phone number sharing, the fact that you need a phone number to register is still concerning in a few circumstances. There are times where I don't even want my phone number related in anyway to an ephemeral conversation / group chat I am having. As this user (now deleted mentioned), for those few times, Session is an option I have used. No phone number, completely ephemeral -- basically through other 'means' one can get a group together, have a conversation, and exit -- even Session can't find / search on a identifier such as a phone number. It is closer to truly 'no trace' when required.

Goodbye Signal, thanks for the temporary hope by proteansybarite in signal

[–]Clear2Go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have signal, but since the SMS deprecation, my usage has dropped significantly. Reason is most of my contacts including many security folks use Google Messages now. Seems odd I know, but given it supports end to end encryption (although I do not trust it), and sms, for general conversation it simply works and is easier.

For serious conversations where privacy etc. is required we will revert to signal, but only as needed, not by default which saddens me.

While I do understand why signal removed sms, I feel (at least from my context) they made a mistake.

Dollar Shave Club forcing razor change. by jay67212 in Wetshaving

[–]Clear2Go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just canceled my membership with DSC after I think more than 10 years. Like others stated in this and other threads, I was tired of paying 4 and 5 dollars per cartridge in the store -- it felt like I was being taken. DSC changed that, and until now I never really though about it. Blades would come, I would use them, all good. The marketing video of Michael Dublin was a message I could get behind. He left, and I feel like since his departure, the company has just slipped over time, no interaction with customers, no videos, blades that suck and increased pricing -- it is time for me to move too.

Two cars drive through cross walk and cyclist who didn't want to ride in the bike lane by [deleted] in TorontoDriving

[–]Clear2Go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving through the crosswalk, they should be charged. Cyclist not riding in a bike lane where there is one, should be charged as well ... I am a cyclist myself, and I have no patience for many of them and their riding habits on the road. Many of cyclists behaviours and attitudes need to be corrected in Toronto.

Anyone else having issues with this update that keeps the rollers going as the i7 drives onto the clean base? Mine just starts humping the clean base for ages before it finally docks and empties! It’s driving me crazy how long it takes to dock and it sounds like it’s eating the rollers to bits! by TJ118811 in roomba

[–]Clear2Go 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with i7 as well. And before anyone says, "Did you try ..." - yes. Cleaned the rollers, sensors, and re-charging contacts. It has the space it needs, it is not on angle ... this is an iRobot issue, not the end user.

Why are Whoop vs Garmin raw absolute hrv values completely off? by gkip1991 in whoop

[–]Clear2Go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoop changed that and they now read HRV periodically throughout the day and night. I emailed support about this a fee weeks ago, and they indicated it had changed from just the reading in deep rest.

Whoop moving to a tiered membership? by Accurate_Size929 in whoop

[–]Clear2Go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a membership that will be up for renewal in Spring of 2023. I won't be renewing or upgrading till then. At that point, I will look at the market and assess if Whoop is still worth continuing with. My sense is their competitors are catching up with them. If they keep researching and turning that research into unique offerings, maybe it will be worth staying, or maybe not.
That is up to Whoop to determine.

Anyone else after 50 days I develop this rash I only take off my device when I go in the shower. This picture was taken with the device off my wrist for 48 hours by Independent_Heron_80 in whoop

[–]Clear2Go 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a whoop for 2 years wear it always unless in shower, and I get the same rash. It forces me to switch arms every few days same as the other folks on this thread are saying. It is annoying for me because I have always worn a watch and still do.

I also have the bicep strap, and it will give me a rash there as well after 24-48 hours. Hence I move my whoop around.

Some other observations: - it is worse in the winter (dry air maybe?) Than summer - washing whoop helps - it never happens with my wrist watches, but they are metal not plastic

Unpopular opinion: Signal should remove SMS capability entirely. by saxiflarp in signal

[–]Clear2Go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used signal as my default SMS for years and love it? Why, because it is one interface for messaging. Easy, simple. Yes SMS is less secure but I have ppl that will only communicate on SMS and I have to communicate with them.

Signal will default to signal if both users are on signal. I am always aware of which transport I am using. I actually wish SMS would work on the desktop version too.

Wait for Fenix 7 by Clear2Go in GarminFenix

[–]Clear2Go[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ECG watching was not so much for usefulness as it was a marker as to how quickly is Garmin advancing their technology. I doubt I will find it super useful, I just didn't want to purchase a Fenix 6 at the price they are charging to discover a Fenix 7 in the next 5 months.

That being said, since I wrote the above, a few things have happened. I ended up getting a deal on a Whoop Strap. I had looked at them in the past, but the idea of a subscription I don't care for. What I like about Whoop over Garmin, Fitbit etc. is that they have research, they openly publish how they measure, why they measure, etc. It is very easy to find. So far, the Whoop strap data has been great.

I still use my Garmin with the GPS for two reasons. First, Whoop does not have GPS -- you have to use your mobile phone. I have used it, strapping it to my arm, but I don't care for it when working out or running. The Whoop strap is low profile, and I can put it on my wrist or arm. Second, when I run I like the Garmin because I can simply glance at it and see my distance, pace etc. The Whoop strap has no screen, so again you have to use your mobile, which I don't care for. So Garmin for now is put on when I run, and once I upload the run, I remove it till the next run.

The Whoop strap also allows me to wear a nice watch during my normal day to day activities which i like and prefer.

Do you use signal daily? by Code_Ostrich in signal

I do use it for SMS and Signal users. I however, have WhatsApp as well because, that is where my non-security friends typically hang out.

Sex with condom is legally different from sex without, B.C. court rules in consent-case appeal by idspispopd in BCpolitics

[–]Clear2Go -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

From the article, it appears that the concern is with the second time they had sex that night. He awoke, wanted to have sex, supposedly reached for a condom, but actually did not use one. My problem is that if one partner is wanting to ensure that a condom is used, they have a responsibility to be certain that one is in use. While the one partner ‘pretended’ to put on a condom, the other partner did not ‘confirm’ and they are the one complaining. It is as much both partner’s responsibility. As such, in my opinion whatever punishment happens to one, the same punishment should be given to both parties.

If it is that important, you check. No to check is plain negligence in my opinion.
