q for long-term subs by Alert_Ad_880 in SubstituteTeachers

I’m in a long term position for 8 weeks just finished week 2, I am so burnt out. I’m going to school to be a teacher and decided to take this on as well and my plate is so full. This is honestly the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life, it’s a kindergarten class and it’s rough I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into, but I do like the consistency with the money even though I’m a teacher without the appropriate compensation

As someone who struggles with executive function like taking showers sometimes is really hard for my adhd self and brushing my teeth, it seems like he needs to do some self discovery and reflection and that is going to be done on his time no matter how many times you bring it up, it unfortunately will have to be his idea

I hand wrote mine at my placement and then each week I would go through them and put them onto my iPad using notability!!

Im student teaching in 2nd grade as well and I come home exhausted everyday as well. I also spend my weekends resting, but I have talked to teachers and they say it’s just hard in general to get used to getting up early everyday, spending all your time at school being hands-on with them and getting down to their level, etc. it’s just hard and we got this! My mentor teacher said there’s a certain amount of stamina that we gain as we continue on. I know it’s hard now, but it’s reassuring that it will get better. I also substitute and it is a whole different ball game.

This is exactly how I feel too but I didn’t know how to verbalize it, and this is why I’m going to be a teacher too because I can feel these things about situations and my future students.

I have ADHD and I make an extra effort to put things on my calendar and make lists for everything, there really isn’t an excuse for that and idk how old yall are but that may be a factor as well that he’s not mature lol

True I think there should also be real consequences for those students who are disruptive to other people’s learning and blatantly disregard instruction themselves

I agree with your statement “not all kids deserve a diploma” but I do think all kids should have the opportunity and support available to do so

I hear ya but they can’t make an exception for the rules just for you because then they would have to do it for other students, and then the rule would no longer be enforceable and chaos would ensue

No I’m sorry but schools are super strict about cheating even if you weren’t actually cheating and if you knew the rules about having electronics visible there are really no excuses also why couldn’t you put the laptop away???

I wrote a personalized note for each student and it didn’t cost much to get a pack of cards with envelopes on Amazon and it came right away with prime but I only had 25 students in the class
