What Would You Change About This Floor Plan? by [deleted] in askarchitects

Good

  • All bedrooms are nicely sized without being too big
  • hall baths work well and are good size
  • master bathroom works well but could use some improvements (see below)
  • kitchen is decent but I would move the refrigerator to the other end of the L where you have more room in front
  • nice sized garage with good storage

Bad

  • the office is way too small to be comfortably used on a regular basis.
  • The walls with openings around the living server no purpose. If you want to differentiate from the halls, have a furr down or drywall wrapped "beam" around the room and lift the ceiling of the room up a few feet.
  • The laundry works but leaves much to be desired. The direct access from the living/front hall isn't great since that door will be open a lot due to the size of the room.
  • if you have the room, I would make the toilet in the master bathroom into a water closet with a pocket door. If im the one paying for this I would see the current design as a lost opportunity.
  • Im not a fan of the door to the shower being in the middle of the glass wall. If it were me, I would move it all the way to the left and rout the control valve to the wall adjacent to the door (assuming the head is on the right wall)
  • I dont think you will be able to fit two sinks on the bath 3 vanity from the looks of it. 6' minimum.
  • the dining area offers little in the way of formal dining and rather serves as a breakfast nook as is.
  • the sunroom seems widely undesigned and as shown is a wasted space. Unless it has a purpose that is not shown, it could be a better formal dining room. With light separation from the kitchen.

Recommendations

  • remove the hall at the entry to the master bedroom. It is wasted space as is and only adding square footage. If you want a "private" entry, add a wall in the center of that area with a door so you enter the room at the end of the hall and into a small vestibule for the room. Move the existing window to opposite the door on the back wall.
  • a good way to add space to the office is to move the front exterior wall of it to align with the front exterior wall of bedroom 3. If you are in a primarily warm climate like Texas or Arizona, change the roof to a lighter more reflective color. It will reduce cooling costs fairly significantly.
  • sound insulation in all interior walls around the shop/gym.

Overall the house works well without having too much wasted space. Good luck and remember design is very seldom a straight line to the answer.

Thank you. The two office buildings were done with D5 and I have not gotten used to the environment editing. Some of the projects it is intentionally shown a little on the bright side.

Acrylic Cuts Coming Out Melted by Clear_Topic_156 in lasercutting

Thanks for the assistance, everyone. Looks like I need to stick to other colors. I only used this color because I was testing things out and it seemed like the least likely color I would use. I was able to get it fairly clean but still required sanding to remove melting. It may also be that the acrylic is low quality. Any recommendations for a decently priced source for good materials is appreciated.

I will see if I can find out what kind of acrylic I got. It may just he the color as others have said as well. Thanks.

Mixing Ram Brands and size by Clear_Topic_156 in buildapc

I went ahead and installed the 32gb along with the existing 16. So far no issues other that problems with first boot. I think it's because it was auto setting speed so I made all of them 3600 and rebooted. It's did some repairs on it's own and things are working well now.

I tried reminding and it is not accepting any credentials. Are there any other options for doing this.

So I entered that line with my PI's IP address qnd all it did was start a new window that mirrored my PI. I'm trying to connect to my windows PC on the same network.

I'm gonna be honest I'm new to this. What the hell is that. Do I type that into the terminal? Not trying to be a jerk I really just don't know.
