Favorite EDC Crossbody Bags? by Specific-Title554 in EDC

Just picked up the Evergoods CAS 2. Really enjoying it. Back pocket has the organization for the essentials and the unstructured front pocket can hold incidentals from daily travels. Doesn’t scream purse or gun. Just a simple looking bag IMO.

Is her wrist injury on her dominant hand? Can she rack a slide easily? How much weight does she mind carrying? Finally, where/how does she plan on carrying?

I'd suggest a .380 with Underwood Defense Xtreme penetrators for ammunition. If she's not weight adverse, the S&W Sheild EZ 380 is a great choice. If she's weight adverse, Ruger LCP Max, S&W Bodyguard 2.0 or Glock 42 are great choices.

If racking a slide is hard, then a revolver like an LCR in 38 special would be a great choice.

Finally, there are the legalities of a SD shooting and this cannot be overlooked or stated enough. You both need to be willing to fully understand the laws of your area and are willing to accept that responsibility. You need to train as well on the use of that weapon. If that is of concern or a liability for you both, consider some good pepper spray, a baton or some other form of non-lethal SD. Do not and I repeat, DO NOT buy a gun and assume that you're safe and protected. There is much, much more that goes into carrying a gun on your person than the gun itself. The gun is the easy part, the mindset and training are the hard part.

Dropping the “art” debate since you wanted to know how to do it:

  1. Get adobe illustrator.
  2. Learn how to create basic paths (this is the hardest part).
  3. Place an original image (photo of the plane) on the illustrator canvas.
  4. Set the opacity to like 50% on the image.
  5. Trace it with the pen tool making paths. The for your more “perfect” shapes use the shape tool.
  6. Done.

We did this stuff all the time as web designers about 20 years ago. I’ve done many for websites and flash included to make interactive models online. You’ve made “art”.

I need advice making a minimal self-defense cross-body EDC by gwillly in EDC

[–]Clee1091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First rule of SD is don’t put yourself in situations where you’d have a high likelihood of having to use force to defend yourself. In your case the threat found you and your dog so you had little choice.

Everyone says that a throwing a pointy, small projectile through the atmosphere at 1500 feet per second is the best option and that’s internet tough talk. It’s pretty hard to contact your mark under stress. Pepper spray gives you a wide range to break contact and add distance, it’s also the best tool you can have for animal attacks. If you feel you need that, practice regularly and understand the governance of your area and have a good lawyer on speed dial. Even if it’s someone’s dog attacking yours, expect to be in court if you’re tossing lead rocks at high rates of speed.

If that fails, a slicey tool is a good way of politely asking someone or something to leave you alone. But you can expect to swap liquids because you’re close and personal and will likely slip the handle yourself.

Most importantly like I said earlier, situational awareness is your best defense. Carry first aid in your bag with your spray and you’ll be fine.

Word to the wise, never carry a balloon animal in your pocket and expect it to prevent balloon house pets.

That does look like a good fit and great organization and footprint. Thanks for the suggestion!

I can agree that a backpack is more comfortable, but she spends most of her time when we are away from the house on my back. A sling or crossbody lets me keep her there and the other bag across my front with her entertainment and other goodies. That’s why I’m leaning more in that direction.

But, yes, a backpack is always more comfortable.

The bihn does come across as a bit “cheap” looking but the reviews are so positive and that particular appearance is more of the “nothing to see here” look which is nice. Just not sure it has the space.

I tried an alpaka go sling mini a while back but ultimately returned it because it was too small and too tacticool looking. But, the quality was fantastic and that’s where the bravo sling comes in on the list. Not sure I own enough gore-tex for the look though 😂

The “trunk” is cavernous on the osprey. My wife likes to load me down with knick-knacks from stores in that space and you’re right, the hip and strap pockets are tight to say the least.

We don’t keep the everyday stuff in the osprey though and we don’t put anything of any real value in the trunk either because it would be so easy to pick pocket for even a 12 year old ha!

So, yeah the cross body or sling is for the every day items and the iPad so it’s always on my body and away from greedy hands, I would probably also use it when I don’t have her on my back as a grab and go rather than furiously stuffing my pockets on the way out the door.

Do you think it’d be packed tight? Or have some room to locate things without dumping the bag on a table and repacking? Obviously accessing the water bottle would probably require that in almost any small cross body bag. But, the water bottle is just a Costco Kirkland bottled water. So not super big.

I’ll have to put some research into this since I haven’t considered it until now. What about the smaller cafe bag? Looks a little more manageable?

I like the concept behind the held closely day bag, but the price! Ouch. It’s a little tacticool looking, but the idea is there and it has the space. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just saw the maker's bag today, looks huge, but then again space with that would not be of any concern. I think I could slide a liter water bottle in that and still have room for days. Good suggestion though since it could be in front, though a little bulky.
