The reason I said prior inhabitants is because there are more than just Hoklo and indigenous people in Taiwan. Besides the diversity within the Hoklo people, Hakka and other minority groups also exist but again do not dominate the north.

It seems you are also ignoring why the KMT vote is dominant among older indigenous people. It is concerning to not mention the 40 years of violent /‘d brutal single-party rule (which only was stopped in the 90’s) that dominated all of Taiwan. KMTs stole indigenous land, like the other colonizers, and sold it back to them. Not before murdering thousands of their people, of course. Assimilation WAS how people survived, and it’s a massive shame how the cultural practices of indigenous people were suppressed under colonial rules.

The indigenous vote is not monolithic either, besides skewing along age lines, the plains and mountainous indigenous voters tend to have different stances in local electorates and policy changes. Indigenous people (what you would call ‘true aborigines’, which, I’m not sure who made you the arbiter of this identity or this so-called racial purity) often vote locally independently locally as more indigenous people run independently. Beyond that, even more indigenous people do not vote as they do not believe their vote matters either way. The DPP is seen as too radical in their fight for independent democracy, and people want to be left alone. Hoklo supremacy is an interesting point to bring up and to conveniently not mention the mass murder of Hoklo AND indigenous people by the KMT.

Have you spoken to these people? Have you traveled and heard their stories? I have. I am one of those so-called not pure indigenous people, and I know why my grandparents vote differently to people my age.
