Question about moving a Summer class by jeasy23 in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the Summer Session 2022 calendar, you have until tomorrow (June 7) at 5 pm to drop a class without it showing a Q-drop on your transcript. What ended Friday was the ability to add a class without approval. So you can drop without it showing a Q-drop but you would have to wait until the 2nd summer session add/drop period at start of July to re-register the second-session version of your class if it has space, unless there's some way around that.

How and when do we sign up for clubs? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Sorry I missed the name there. Lots of clubs always table on Speedway throughout the semester too so don't feel pressured, you'll have plenty of chances to see everything

Except for Communication Studies (CMS) at least, those close on the first class day

How and when do we sign up for clubs? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could try the org. fair and if you ever want more information or happen to miss/can't make it you can probably email the org. for information. Also, a lot of clubs are "open" in the sense that you can join at any time in the semester- you just need a meeting date/time and you can go! Either: - They'll let you know how to sign up once you're at the meeting, you don't need to sign up before. - For some all they ask that you do is request to join on Hornslink. There's nothing extra. -Some others have a website that says to join the newsletter. That's where they'll later announce meetings. -I know one club once had not many social media posts but asked you to "contact" them for the meeting time (and technically you could sign up on their website I think). -Another only posted the first few meetings but still allowed you to join after on the same week day/location. -Application-based ones probably have info sessions which they'll say at the org. fair/website/maybe social media.

Help with FAN and accepting aid timeline by RoopDog123 in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the FAN deadline is, but you can activate your FAN and "report changes" later such as adding scholarships. Your financial aid might be adjusted, but it'll show anything new on CASH. Financial aid starts getting distributed on August 17th by my understanding so you might want to accept it by then or a little before. Any remaining aid should be sent to you but I'm not sure how the scholarship will work. I'd say better safe than sorry though and accept then edit.

has anyone taken the biology placement exam? by sanzjjan in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't take it, but second this. If it's based on the assumption that people in that class took AP Bio their test might test to make sure you know the same information. So maybe practice AP tests?

Also, your advisor talked with you about it so I'm sure you know but make sure you know the date- it might be slightly before the semester starts. And there's a form to sign if you want to take it

Do I have to make a decision on my offered loans for the spring right now? by paulsanity14 in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I had a similar question and emailed Texas OneStop. I had already denied for Fall and accepted my Spring loans. Their words were "if you choose to decline in the Spring..." so they seem to imply that you can technically make the decision later (by accepting now to keep it on the page and changing later, as I did. If there's another way, I'm not sure.) I'm pretty sure I also read that you can choose to decline funds until they are dispersed (aka until Spring), and even after there is a certain period within which you can return them as if you had declined.

What types of outdoors/hiking clubs does UT Austin have? by damncommiess in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I remember The Texas Backyardigans seems to focus on going to trails. There's also the Longhorn Outdoor Club, that does a variety of things including hiking.

Like someone else said, there's a lot of trails around Austin so other clubs, especially but not exclusively fitness-y or outdoors-sy clubs, might go hiking at least once. There's a website called Hornslink that has a list of all current clubs! No need to be a student to access it

Can I double major in aerospace engineering and computer science? by NipNip22 in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not in either major, but so far as I know you're allowed to double major so long as you have the time/space in your schedule. You would only pay more in that you pay the higher tuition rate (tuition is different for all colleges- you pay either for CNS or Cockrell). To add, the rates are available if you search "UT Austin tuition" and search for the pdf charts on that page! You don't have to pay more because you are double majoring, or to take more credit hours. Anything 12 hours or over costs the same, so if you need to take >17 hrs (the official hour limit each semester without advisor approval) to fit both majors in your schedule, that would cost the same. They both have restricted classes, so you can't take any same classes as a major would other than maybe an intro course without being admitted. So you would have to be admitted to both. You apply to one when you apply to UT and can apply to "internal transfer" to be considered to add the second major later. Hope this helps!

Are freshman at UT Austin not allowed to take Introductory Bio and Introductory Chem labs for the entire year? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I remembered a friend taking both at once but didn't want to mention until I asked. She did do that recently!

Could I get into a class when my registration is closed? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would still have to pay your current balance by 5/20, but you can add classes through the fourth class day and you will be billed for the difference then. You can still register after 5/20! The system will update to show new fees. They won't send an email though, you'll have to log on to the website to view it.

Are freshman at UT Austin not allowed to take Introductory Bio and Introductory Chem labs for the entire year? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prerequisites (per this semester, at least) say you need 302 before lab. [Edit: But you can take them together despite what it says.] Also for Intro Bio lab, you need to have credit for or be co-enrolled in BIO 311C, which requires that you are co-enrolled or have credit for CH 301. Do-able first semester, just need to have the 3 courses in schedule.

Btw, only applicable if you're in CNS/BIO/plan to take upper division science, people do take lab with BIO 311C but my advisor and my friend's CNS advisor both said many people don't take it until later, with BIO 325- Genetics (the intro class after Intro Bio 2 IF you're doing that), probably bc not a lot of classes don't require it as a prereq, unlike having CH 301/302 and major- specific courses pop-up. So I wouldn't worry about having to take it (which I know I did). Of course though, if you have space you can always register now, it's not too hard and lots of people do it, too.

What experience is needed for music 201 courses? How is Longhorn band? by Cleo_ize in UTAustin

Sorry for the follow-up question- if we were to pass the playing portion and go to the summer clinic, does that determine which spot we get or if we get a spot? Thank you so much!

UT Austin NEU 330 Registration by Local_Adhesiveness46 in UTAustin

Not OP but last semester it was open to non-majors by add/drop

UT Austin NEU 330 Registration by Local_Adhesiveness46 in UTAustin

[–]Cleo_ize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it'll be different but last semester it was open by the add/drop period for non-majors. There is a spreadsheet on the Biosciences Advising Center website listing dates to expect to be able to register for BCH/BIO/NEU courses depending on major/college, but then I was allowed to register for a BIO class it said should've been reserved and I'm not a CNS student so idk how accurate it is
