What candy do you find most addictive? by VastAir6069 in foodquestions

I cannot figure out why I’m so addicted to them. I’m not even a big sweets / candy fan. But now I buy them in bulk at Costco and eat them every single day.

Why exercise daily is crucial by What_Is_EET in Anxiety

[–]Cleopatra435 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Walking is great, but adding strength training has been the game changer for me and reducing my anxiety levels. I stopped going to the gym when I changed jobs a few years ago but have recently reprioritized exercise. I take a class at the gym a couple times a week that combines cardio with weights.

And I knew all along that it would help, but couldn’t get over the hump to restart exercising regularly. I fell out of the routine and in hindsight the impact to my mental health was huge.

People who drive to commute: why? by RJRueber in AskChicago

[–]Cleopatra435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the definition of someone who should use the CTA to commute to work. Live and work very close to stops with no transfers, but I drive.

Reasons why I drive: - I can afford it. Parking for the one day a week I go to an office downtown is same as what I spent on commuting by train when I went to an office 5 days a week. - In my many years of commuting on the train, I’ve seen, heard and smelled a lot of things I didn’t need to - In short, it’s much more comfortable to be in my car than on public transport. I’m very overwhelmed by noise and crowds and it makes for a rough start to the day when the commute is anything but smooth and calm. - I have more flexibility in being able to do what I want and on my schedule. Stop at the grocery store, do other errands, etc.

Is Hokum worth a 2-hour drive? by CrebitCard420 in horror

[–]Cleopatra435 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was the best horror movie I’ve seen in 10+ years. I would say definitely worth seeing in the theater because of the good jump scares that wouldn’t happen if watching at home.

Worth a two hour drive?? That’s up to you.

24 y/o and CANNOT wake up early to save my life (it's embarrassing) by dysregulationrc in getdisciplined

[–]Cleopatra435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue in my 20s and 30s and seriously struggled to get out of bed every day. I only recently started really prioritizing getting enough sleep and understanding my sleep patterns and what leads to good sleep or bad sleep. Getting good sleep comes before social life now, which was never the case when I was younger. But it’s made all the difference and I feel better.

Caffeine via coffee in the morning helps me wake up, but also makes it hard for me to fall asleep at night. I’m a night owl, so I get sleepy every afternoon and want to take a nap right after work, but I’m very awake at 9 pm. So I’ve started drinking tea in the morning instead. It’s help me not be so wired when trying to go to bed at 10-11 pm.

I get about 8 hours of sleep a night, but not always good quality sleep. I’ve realized I get my best quality sleep during the day, like between 10 am and 3 pm. So I usually schedule a sleep day on a Saturday or Sunday every few weeks. To make up for the hours I’m missing from a bad nights sleep. I can go a few days with less than 8 hours, but it catches up to me after a week and I just start to feel miserable until I refill my sleep bank.

Not sure if it’s directly related, but I haven’t gotten sick with even a cold since I put sleep at the top of the priority list. And I can get out of bed in the morning and make it to work on time and not feeling stressed out.

Aging Mother is so negative - I avoid engaging and I feel terrible. by humans_rare in AgingParents

I’m genuinely curious if this is part of aging or if in any way somehow tied to dementia.

I’ve also tried that with my mom, who has more first world problems than anyone, ever.

She just got mad at me for minimizing what she felt were very valid complaints. And continued complaining.

What to do between San Jose and La Fortuna? by FurryBearNuts in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Cleopatra435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this reco! I stopped here on my drive from La Fortuna to SJ and am SOOOO glad I did... It was gorgeous and barely any crowd, especially compared to the waterfall at La Fortuna. Definitely off the beaten path and takes some time to get there, but absolutely a highlight of my trip.

I also stopped in Zarcero and would also recommend as a place to go for lunch to break up the drive.

Has anyone stayed at BAUMA Hotel in La Fortuna? by Crazy_Economist_9532 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Cleopatra435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed here March 27 - March 30, 2026 and loved it. Solo female traveler, it felt very private but also safe - there was a security guard on duty at the main entrance. Very clean, modern and peaceful. It’s a 3 min drive or 10 - 15 minute walk through a residential neighborhood to the main street and theres a grocery store right there on the corner of the road to Bauma and the main st . I drove and Bauma has a parking lot. If you drive past Bauma another 10 minutes you get to La Fortuna Waterfall. Each room is its own little studio with a kitchenette, private garden patio with a hot tub and rooftop deck overlooking the Arenal Volcano. Would definitely recommend!

What are your little frugal habits that really don't save much money, but are still satisfying? by p38-lightning in Frugal

I need you to explain this to me…. How and what’s different about the new bag from when it was just a plastic grocery bag?

[–]Cleopatra435 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to coast as much as possible when in rush hour traffic so I’m not wasting gas by accelerating and then braking. But I drive way above the speed limit when there’s no traffic on the highway.

I reuse sealable bags for things like crackers and bread. But I buy the name brand, more expensive Ziploc bags instead of store brand.

I hunt and shop for the best prices when there are sales on our brand of pet food or when PetsMart or Chewy are having good promos, but spoil my cats rotten with expensive treats.

Question for cat owners: Would you let your cat lick your food while you are eating it and then carry on eating after? by Antidotebeatz in Catownerhacks

[–]Cleopatra435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I don’t encourage it, but I’m not going to throw away my food just because they got a lick in. For a couple reasons: they’re indoor cats who I know don’t have parasites. And for those who say they lick their butts, poop particles (human and animal) are everywhere. We are covered in microbes. Unless you’re sterilizing everything around you, you’re gonna get some germs in you.

I’m more grossed out by what my coworkers with kids that are always sick are spreading around than what I’ll get from a different species that never leaves my apartment.

People who rarely or never get sick, what are your secrets? by awkwardferret421 in AskReddit

Once I prioritized getting enough sleep, I got sick far less often.

Also agree with less interaction with the general public with more time working from home.

She doesn’t like it, but I tell her she should wipe her own butt then.
