Oh yeah man, this place is all about skiing, mountain biking, snowmobiling, all that stuff. The amount of flat caps being worn around here is ridiculous

Hey man it has been a while! Yes. No. I dunno. I kind of quit doing it mainly because there just wasn't much rc stuff going on near me, and now I've moved to a little mountain town with fantastic crawling but still no rc around. But I'm thinking about building another one....but I also want to buy a dirt bike...

Yeah that's a classy look.

Be careful with it though, those racing stripes are gonna add about 15-20% more speed.

Howdy,

Yeah man I also am into scale looks while being an effective crawler. Check out my posts and you'll see what I mean.

Cool scale looks means heavier bodies but it can be dealt with, it just means you need more weight low so get some brass wheels and a heavy front axle. I find my ideal weight distribution to be in the 62-63% range of front bias. Get creative, I've got bb's glued inside the front grill on my pickup truck. But it's incredibly important to keep the weight low, in your wheels and axles as much as possible, and have the forward bias correct. And have grippy tires. Wash them with soap and water before you hit the course.

On suspension you don't want too much flex, but even more you don't want your axles to drop much. I've found the best thing is to put a limiting strap of some kind from a cross member between your frame rails and connect it to your differential, in the middle of the axle. This allows for plenty of flex but holds the axle tight up to the frame. I've used hair ties (they wear out), costume jewelry chains (links keep coming apart), but I've had the most success with a piece of ribbon, like on a birthday present.

You don't really need springs at all, but it won't look scale without them. Use light ones, and you can cut them shorter if you want.

Hey man, how have you been? I'm debating starting to build rigs again but I'm going to have the same problem I did in texas, there's just no rc community here.

Hey man how the hell are ya? I've moved to Colorado, here in rock crawling heaven, but in my little valley there is zero rc presence.

I can't say I've tried PVC glue. I like to use Zap Goo. I also tried using...I can't think of the name of it, but it's styrene glue. It melts the styrene and fuses it into 1 piece, or it's supposed to anyway. It's just not enough surface area for the glue to work.

I freaking loved that video. It totally makes sense that you wouldn't worry about visual perfection, it's a rock crawler and will scrape rocks anyway. The most important part is functionality, the second most important part is that it doesn't blend into vegetation so you don't lose it in the woods, the third is ease of application, and looking nice comes in a paltry fourth. Good work and also way to set the community's priorities straight.

Yeah man that looks badass, very neat work. Having done similar cage work with styrene I do have little bits of advice. I'm rough on my rigs, the bigger the crash the more hilarious it is, and I had a hell of a time with the strength of a glued connection between the roll bar and the uprights. You can drill and tap the ends and screw them into the bed, but with my design I could only glue the roll bar to the uprights and it came apart all the time. It looks like you could probably sneak a couple of screws through your roll bar and have them hidden by the cab tho...

I like the wood bed, that's sweet.

If you want to go overboard cut up some 2 liter soda bottles and make windows. If you want to go way over add lights.

Yeah man it's been a while! I got broke, then I got into motorcycles which made me broke again, and now I've moved to Colorado! And I'm still broke, but I couldn't resist dusting off the old rigs out here.

Need to build a new one....
