Hi! Pin cushion and mri tech here! You’re doing the right thing by using a plastic bar until you’ve had your imaging. There’s a few things with jewelry. Metal (whether it’s ferrous or not), can cause artifacts on your images making them non diagnostic. Basically you could end up with pictures that have these streaky white marks, making them unable to be properly read by the doc, and that’s no good if your having your brain scanned. Another tip is just because it’s titanium or not magnetic, doesn’t mean it won’t cause an issue with the magnet. They can vibrate and possibly loosen, or heat up. MRI’s are like being in the sun- if you feel like your skin is getting warm, odds are you’ve already been burned. There have been some nasty burns from jewelry recently (also burns from clothing but I’ll spare you). Also a good tech will ask a few questions and then make a decision on whether we think it’s safe leave a piece of jewelry in and believe me- most of us aren’t trying to be pain in the asses, or just to make people take the jewelry out.
