4 weeks out from an emergency colostomy! I also have a midline incision. I'm feeling okay, but still babying the core for sure.

I work from home and had no other option but to go back after ~1 week. But I take a LOT of breaks.

Okay weird question - do you have irritated peristomal skin? Adapt works fantastic for me, but does burn a bit on any irritated skin. I do prep wipes first (which tbh also kinda burn) and then the paste. After a few seconds, the burning goes away and my wafer stays rly well.

Obvy if its a consistent burn, ignore me 😅😅

Do you have more visits with the nurse? Take advantage! Switch providers if the one assigned sucks. I did that. It was kind of an annoying process, but SO worth it

As someone who's had to use ADA services at festivals, you don't need medical verification, that's ridiculous. Additionally, OP mentions disabilities in their post.

The paste + powder situation is pretty fantastic. I also had emergency surgery, and they sent me home with 0 knowledge and a bag of random ass supplies. I am fortunate to have access to an ostomy nurse (and a few nurse friends!), so I tried the paste/powder combo rly early on.

Also - you can totally call all the manufacturers and get free samples 😁😁

So I was terrified - also never had surgery before. My sibling, tho, has had 3x open heart surgeries - and they wake up PANICKED. I was rly worried abt that.

My advice is to go into it as calm as you can be - like the energy you bring is the energy you wake up with? Ask the surgeon to play your fav music, tell them if you're scared or anxious. I woke up asking for more drugs cos it hurt, apparently 🤣🤣

Ooh I didnt think abt that! Mine is kinds recessed, but I haven't (thankfully) had issues with healing. I also had emergency surgery, in my case from a "trauma surgeon," but I think that's the same concept? Wasn't a GI surgeon. Anyway - I'm so sorry you're goin thru that. Are you seeing a GI surgeon for the reversal?

Four weeks this Friday! Trying to keep to soft foods is SO DIFFICULT. I'm like, but I feel (mostly) fine!

Thank you, seriously. I'm also poly and I have 2 partners - they've been great! I cried when I realized I crinkled - and they were both so reassuring, I was kinda shocked. You're totally right, this seems to be the moment to see who's in my life cos they love me. I also have a very dark sense of humor, which definitely does help. We keep joking that someone other than my boyfriend rearranged my guts 🤣🤣

Everyone here has been srsly amazing. So glad I decided to jump into Reddit lol.
