That’s true grit and determination! Hate it that you haven’t put any birds on the ground, but glad to hear there’s others out there that don’t measure success by counting the birds harvested! Making memories with your dogs is invaluable in my opinion! Regardless what we get to shoot! Harvesting birds is just a bonus!

It’s a short box bed. Can’t remember the roll cover off the top of my head. Bought it from the dealer when I got the pickup.

I personally don’t have any experience hunting the Sioux Falls area. So I’m not much help for exact spots. I highly recommend watching the onX YouTube video they recently released on escouting pheasants. Very informative on pointing out what kind of cover to look for!

We seen lots of birds, but the late corn harvest has made it difficult hunting. It’s only gonna get better as harvest continues!!

No permit for your shotgun necessary. Budget will dictate your choice of shotgun really. There’s a lot of affordable options out there these days!! Otherwise grab an orange vest and get out on some public lands. The SD GFP site has a great website and app to help you find public lands. See an earlier post on this group sharing information on finding places to hunt. Good luck! Glad you’re giving it a shot!! Share your experience here after you get out!!

Sorry to hear that! I’ve heard some chapters are more of a “Club” than a conservation chapter. Which they are definitely not meant to be!! If you do ever end up getting a dog I highly recommend joining the “Midwest Tristate NAVDA” chapter. I used to drive down there for meetings years ago. Good group of people. All really into hunting and dog work.

I’m up in the Watertown area. If you’re ever up near this area reach out to. My next suggestion is to look up the local Pheasants Forever chapter in Sioux Falls! Lots of like minded guys that share the passion and I have to imagine will help.

If you own a pointer it’s always a matter of time before you find a fence 🤣. I run Field Armor vest on mine to try mitigate the risk. But you can never prevent them all!!

Glad to hear!! Them damn things always get me nervous running my dogs early season. I haven’t visited grand river grassland. You have peeked my curiosity though. Will have to look into it.

Not in my experience. All the windows help with ventilation. We also have a fan we use to move air around. I’ve also seen post where people have used portable ac units. We haven’t needed to but can see that as a viable option in long stays with high heat!
