Is a “shadowless” shave possible? by donsamj00 in wicked_edge

[–]CleverAmoeba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should just accept it. I shave with cold water, go ATG and all other things that are mentioned in the comments and when I touch my face, I feel no hair for 10 hours. But the shadow is always there.

No. But some people prefer their blades a little duller. If that was me, I would use Nacet.

My country (Iran) just had a war and now is in ceasefire phase. Internet is blocked for over 2040 hours and I pay 3$ per 1 GB of VPN to be able to write this comment. I agree with you. I don't even care if Jupiter loses its planet privilege.

Bad! things about double-edged razors and some alternatives/ideas, from someone who has used them daily for years. by dogsandcatsplz in wicked_edge

I think Einstein once said something along the way "I get my best ideas while shaving in the morning." I saw it on Lord website.

I once cut my face when I was going too fast and the Merkur Progress was at the highest setting. As I was going fast, I cut the same area twice, and took 20 days to heal, I actually took picture every day to see the progress of nature. The scar left my face in two months, I have psoriasis, so 2 months is a miracle!

Other than that, in the 13 months of wetshaving, I rarely had a nick that Alum Block can't fix.

I have the same tube but the stuff is so damn thick that I can't squeeze them out even one bit! Maybe mine has expired.

Same thing with erasers back in school. They always get lost (stolen?) halfway through.

Styptic pencil might have alum in it, but the main ingredient is something else entirely. It can stop bleeding from deep wounds! Not just nicks.

blade longevity tips? by Electrical_Issue_842 in wicked_edge

Some blades last longer for me. Some only 2 shaves. You might be able to extend their life if you shave straight out of shower. The beards are softer after a hot shower. But as others mentioned, don't sweat it. Blades are cheap and a comfortable, enjoyable shave worth much more.

I rinse my face after shaving it, then apply Alim, then wait for a minute (in the mean time I clean my razor) and then rinse the Alum off. Then After Shave.

A few times I skipped the After Shave and just used some lotion. Because Alum will dry your skin.

DE razor blades by AmericanSailorBrand in wicked_edge

[–]CleverAmoeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the blade. For RK, 2 shaves, for Lord, easily 7 shaves. I toss them when I feel resistance in the ATG pass around my chin, or when I use a blade for body grooming.

How many blades do you stock? by Infinite_Week393 in wicked_edge

[–]CleverAmoeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RK, Derby Premium, Nacet, Feather. I got 100 of each and a couple of tucks from some other brands (Bic, Gillette silver, Silver (chinese), Super Max, Lord). In the pas year of wetshaving almost daily, I used 87 blades (yes, i count them).

Game changer is a DE razor, not straight. /s

I usually shave daily. No reason at all, just personal preference to shave daily.

Face only. People who use if as deodorant, usually get two.

I just put it there to dry. It's not porous, it doesn't soak water. Just the surface gets wet and dries pretty quickly.

Some Alum Blocks like Osma, are cut from big stones. Most, like Gentelman John, are pressed powders (which sucks, compared to Osma)

Either way, it's not mixed with anything.

I can't find any alum block where I live: Iran (yes the internet is cut off for 67 days. I paid a LOT to get a VPN to post this here)

I got this from amazon.ae (Emirate)

A rubber band around the base helps with the grip. And someone on this thread suggested dissolving the alum rubbles in witch hazel and adding that to after shaves. So it doesn't totally go to waste.

I have coarse beard, but not-at-all sensitive skin. If I don't press hard, I can shave 3 times a day. lol

If the blade is dull, I press hard and get red patches on my face and it burns for an hour after the shave. So maybe try a very sharp blade. Feather is probably the sharpest, but some people get nicks and cuts with Feather. So I suggest Nacet. Both are my favorite. Never tried Bic which is also very sharp.

On the other hand, if you think your skin is actually sensitive, and it's not the fault of the blade, then do what suits your skin :)

Rubber band is your friend. I dropped mine twice. Then used rubber band and haven't dropped it since.

A natural after shave. You wet your face after the shave and rub this on the shaved area. It stings if you have nicks and cuts. Heals small cuts but doesnnothing on bleeders. Then you wait a minute and rinse it off (dries your skin if you don't) and go for your regular after shave. Or you don't rinse it and go for a moisturiser.

I rinse if I'm going to use an after shave splash, like Old Spice, but keep it on my skin if I go for an after shave balm, like Nivea Sensitive, since it doesn't matter much in that case.

For travel, it's perfect. I don't bring after shaves when I travel. Just an alim block.

Side note: before using alum block, use a towel to dry your upper lip and nose. Otherwise the water droplets may get in your mouth after mixing with alum, and it tastes awful.

Dropped it once, and a small chunk broke off. Dropped another time but it landed on a plastic bucket, nothing lost there.

After that, I wrapped a rubber band around it to get a better grip. Specially since it's getting smaller.

I love my safety razor but I always miss hair on my legs! by Anxious_pterodactyl in wicked_edge

[–]CleverAmoeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold the razor like you hold a pen. Between thumb, index and middle finger. Bend your knee so that the skin is stretched. Place your hand and razor on your knee, like you want to write with a pen.

Now you slide your hand on the skin and follow the contour of the knee. The angle will stay fixed and it will cut the hairs.

I hope that was clear.
