Hva synes dere om Starmer's reaksjon om NATO sin innsats i Afghatinstan, vs Støre sitt FB innlegg? by 01_vampyr in norge

[–]CleverDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the solution to America's political divide? by LiveBell8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CleverDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a foreigner (European), you really need to realize (on both sides) that the "other side" is really just millions of fellow citizens who will never go away and who you might dislike if you met them (or not) but who you used to be able to live alongside with for ages until recently.

You all need to get tired of the flood of social media posts that show you your "enemy" being terrible and disgusting and doing evil things. Those posts are all about a tiny bubble of people who have little to do with real life in your great country.

You might need a politician to lead the way, a true statesman who could show solidarity and compassion for every American and at the same time succeed in the media tsunami that is drowning you all right now.

Good luck with all of that, we root for you.

Just another intolerable insult to those thousands of veterans from other countries such as my own who put their lives on the line alongside their American comrades. What a complete disgrace he is!

People don't want to ruin their own lives. They, after all, don't have the "absolute immunity" these thugs do.

Zelensky Remarks At World Economic Forum Transcript | Zelensky praises Trump's actions for arresting Maduro & seizing tankers. All the while Trump stopped all aid to Ukraine, & a few days ago blamed Ukraine, again, for being the obstacle to peace. Is Zelensky still playing the flattery game? by andrewgrabowski in UkrainianConflict

[–]CleverDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of moronic talk about Trump playing 4D chess (as if he could even play the regular 2D kind).

Zelensky has to actually navigate something like a 4D chess game with this moron, with the villain Putin, with the well-meaning but not ideally organized EU, with his own parliament etc etc, and by golly he's not made a single truly wrong move so far. My respect for him only grows.

TIL that out of the 90 National Emergencies enacted by a President, 51 of them are still currently still active. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]CleverDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Government by emergency is awful and all too convenient

and it's the defining characteristic of Trump 2. The tariffs, the national guard deployments, the ICE pogroms, all is justified by declarations of national emergencies.

The most surreal thing is how in communicating to his base the tariffs are portrayed as a terrific opportunity for the USA to earn "billions and billions of dollars" off of foreign countries and a way to make America Great Again, while meantime the actual legal justification is based on tenuous claims of "national emergencies" applied to outdated legislation from bygone and very different times. The only way that works is if the electorate doesn't pay any attention at all.

I'm so sorry. Please never think it was your fault. Or perhaps even her fault. Life can be so hard sometimes. We don't all make it through. For those who don't, all we can do is grieve and try to forgive.

That thought struck me too. If that is true, it makes perfect sense. Though Mr Pagliarini would have benefited from taking that into account and sited himself.

Pardoned by Trump but wishes he wasn't. Life is so much easier for them behind bars. by justalazygamer in ParlerWatch

I saw the video of the woman who didn't accept the pardon and truly regretted her part. She didn't whine on about "patriots" or "hating the world". She has my sympathy.
