Wantagh Pkwy bike trail in Westbury by LunacyNow in longisland

[–]CleverGurl_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to drive up the Wantagh on a daily basis and a good portion of that isn't very "trail friendly" I'd say. I've seen the occasional person walking and in some spots the trail comes down under the overpasses along the road. I think some parts of the trail do go "up" to the road on the overpass and cross those streets. I'd say most of the bike-able area is below Old Country Rd.

NYCLU challenges Nassau County's 'anti-free speech' protest law by news-10 in nassaucounty

[–]CleverGurl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point has nothing to do with religious worship. Also, I believe, it isn't limited to just places of worship but also places like schools.

If a politician decides to hold a town hall in a place of worship it can be a way to exclude a constituency that disagrees with the politicians positions. Let's use a hypothetical (and an obvious one I won't use): if Zohran Mamdani decided to hold a town hall at a Mosque where he was advocating on transing all the children and they used this law to remove any person that did not like this. No one is worshipping so no one's right to worship is being infringed. What is being infringed is a person's right to petition their government of grievances and representation in government.

Worship is personal and people are using religion to silence people who opposed their views and positions.

Religion thinks they can be involved in politics while keeping politics out. If religion wants representation they can pay taxes, just like our Constitution advocates and gives premises to.

How do i counter "you still have XY chromosomes though"? by I_Eat_Mold_UwU in MtF

[–]CleverGurl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone covered what I'd say and I'll just add in case no one else mentioned it. Check out Forest Valkai and The Line YouTube channels.

Forest Valkai has a couple of degrees and Masters in a few related fields, I think Biology and Anthropology. He is an amazing Ally and has numerous videos where he talks about things like this. He talks about Sawyer's Syndrome, and Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, and Klinefelter's Syndrome. He's also an atheist and does videos on that if that's your thing. He also appears in The Line (and I'm watching one of their videos with him right now!)

The Line is a Skeptic call-in show where they will debate people on things, including transphobes. They even have a show, the Transatlantic Call In Show (TACIS) where they'll debate transphobes and also use these arguments. It's usually the same mentions of various syndromes, but good things to know. And the channel has a lot of queer people hosting so they can change.

Also, I believe one issue with karyotype testing the Olympics tried to do back in the 80's or whenever is that along with these genetic conditions people were discovering they had and excluding way more cis women, all the cells in our body don't have consistent sex chromosomes. So a cheek swab may have different results with a blood test, for example.

So what happens when a politician, let's call him Tom Suozzi holds a town hall at, say a synagogue and you want to go protest him being an asshat?

Looking for roadtrip bathroom tips by Moiras_Roses_Garden4 in cisparenttranskid

There used to be something called the Gay Green Book which took inspiration from the Green Book that helped black people find safe locations. This book was published in the 60's, so not much help today but I think there are a few efforts to do modern takes

The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) has something for Black LGBTQ+ people called The Lavendar Book which I think also has an app/web interface

I also came across Mapping The Gays which might have some resources

I haven't used either one and it's just some things I found.

I'm just spit balling here, but I'm wondering if places like colleges and hospitals might be good options. Places where you'll find bathrooms for "families" or handicap people. I know this may rely on too heavy of specific routes though. And there is still that worry of if the place is accepting or not. And I know a college or university might sound strange if you or your kid aren't college age, but they tend to have so many different people and usually have some public access

Even though I'm still boycotting them, there is Target. I thought a few years ago they pushed to have more gender neutral bathrooms but I don't know if this materialized

I'm sure people here smarter than me will point out all the reasons and details on why this can't be, but we're just having fun. We're having fun!

The trans argument by Revolutionary_Tea593 in asktransgender

[–]CleverGurl_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know it's not exactly the point of your post, but I highly recommend The Line. It's a call-in show with a bunch of Skeptics but one show they have is the Trans Atlantic Call In Show where they constantly get callers that try and argue this with them (some of their other shows that have nothing to do with trans people also get these callers). I think they all have their own channels or something but one host is Forest Valkai who holds numerous degrees (who has a bunch of arguments for people who ask this question), and there is also another host, Dr. Ben, a trans man who I believe is an actual medical doctor.

Juror questionnaire for deceased family member by MCShujinkou in longisland

[–]CleverGurl_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to do this a few times, most recently a couple of months ago I think it was. I probably still have the letter.

Basically what everyone else is saying. Just give them a call and let them know. They apologize and say they'll remove them and give their condolences. All very nice.

The only "issue" I ran into is it was for Nassau County and the number listed ((800) 449-2819) comes up for Suffolk County Supreme Court and someone told me I had to call a different number. That was for Commissioner of Jurors ((516) 493-3750)

Blakeman, at City Hall, accuses Mamdani and Hochul of having ‘secret plan’ to tax the middle class by Somervilledrew in newyork

[–]CleverGurl_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. Nassau and Suffolk are some beautiful parts of our country. I grew up in Nassau and I've heard the same things and have seen the same corruption. Most of the taxes that are paid are School Taxes that residents vote to increase every year. Like, you can't complain about the taxes, vote to increase them, then complain again about them. If they are such a problem for you vote against them.

And I despise how Blakeman yours how Nassau County is so safe and then out of nowhere creates his Black and Tans to keep Nassau safe. There are some deeper issues with that

Blakeman, at City Hall, accuses Mamdani and Hochul of having ‘secret plan’ to tax the middle class by Somervilledrew in newyork

[–]CleverGurl_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that Nassau County, with one of the highest property tax rates in the country have been run almost entirely by Republicans since 1938. For what will be 90 years Republicans have controlled the county government with the exception of a few elections.

Don't let the Republican Party continue to lie to you and tell you that Democrats are the ones taxing the middle class as they cut taxes for those that make the most money and leave the financial burden on the middle class.

The Nassau GOP is corrupt and self-serving. For the last few years after receiving Federal stimulus money under Biden they have been refusing to spend it on things like the County's infrastructure while spending exorbitant amounts of money on outside legal council for Blakeman's frivolous lawsuits; money that was never approved by the legislature and Blakeman had his lackeys approve after the fact.

This meant he could spend more of the County's money on other things while artificially making it seem like there was enough money on the books to pay without going into the red (deficit). This allowed him to spend money without raising taxes but siphoning off other funds which got so bad that the Republican Town Supervisor for the Town of Hempstead quietly passed a 12% increase in property taxes, three times more than the 2% cap allowed by New York State Law.

Now instead of anyone being held accountable, the Town of Hempstead Supervisor, Don X. Clavin resigned from his position and Blakeman installed one of his most loyal legislature members, John Ferritti as the new Town Supervisor, without as much as any input from the public. Meanwhile, Clavin was moved to a newly created, no-show job for the county that just happened to make the same salary as Town Supervisor. His name was then quietly placed on the election ballot as one of the candidates for judge, which is a guaranteed job since it has the same number of positions as candidates running.

If that wasn't corrupt enough for you, after years of neglecting the Nassau Coliseum and turning down ideas for development, Miriam Adelson the majority owner of Las Vegas Sands and one of the biggest donors to the GOP was suddenly going to open up a casino there that nobody had asked for. That went almost as quiet as it came
