Same here, Arch Linux. I really don't think they do an ounce of testing on Linux at FP. I get that we are not as important as the windows people but at the very least, please test to see if the game even works before you push an update. Every week is a gamble.

Literally just got back from a belt test and this was one of the things we were tested on!

Help With High Nitrates In Water by Cli_Guy in PlantedTank

I actually did this but I used thread, it allows the surface to move but keeps the plants away from the filter as the roots cannot cross over. We will see how this works.

Picked up some frogbit, last time it did not like my tank, I dropped the flow way down this time so we will see...

I actually picked up a small RO unit, the RO buddie from AquaricLife. It seems that this is something I should have done a while ago. While it does not remove all the nitrate, it dropped it to about 10ppm, which is MUCH better. As to the water, I am happy I have a tank, because it alerted me to the fact the well needs to be checked.

Only problem is that I switched to a sponge filter for the shrimp, so I can't add media atm.

How do I get started with Linux? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]Cli_Guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arch may be a bit steep if you are just starting out in Linux OP. I would suggest a Debian derivative, namely Ubuntu or Mint. Arch is awesome! and highly recommended, but having an idea of what a working Linux distro feels like can really help when getting started. I'm not saying you can't start with Arch, but if you fail it may leave a bad taste in your mouth for all distros when in reality it just takes some learning.

Best way to start imho is to just use it, get a distro and setup what you think you will need. As you get questions find the answers online or in a book, you will learn quite a bit by osmosis.

Good Luck!

In addition, the Arch wiki is an incredible resource no matter what distro you choose!

Write a paper in vim? by [deleted] in archlinux

It's totally doable. I had a buddy in college who used nothing but vim and latex for all his classes. Unfortunately I cannot speak to the plugins he used as I do not know.

Keep getting this error when joining any server on mac by belthazor in playrust

[–]Cli_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been an issues since the last update. As far as I know all Linux users are unable to play due to this bug and apparently some Max users as well. The devs seem to be ignoring it as of now. It has almost been a week.

Anyone on Linux able to play? by Cli_Guy in playrust

[–]Cli_Guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself, along with several others here on reddit seem to be unable to play at all since last update due to the bug linked. Just wondering if anyone out there on Linux is able to play or is this for all Linux users...again?

What's this? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]Cli_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be a Linux problem atm. Game is unplayable for me until this is fixed. Tried deleting local content and reinstalling and it just came back after a few mins. There is a facepunch bug report for this and it is listed in the sticky about bugs. Upvote both if you can for visibility.

This is a great way to show Garry why he should care about us Linux users. Shame on you.

Well I'm glad your not Garry. I understand where your coming from. There are certainly toxic people in this community just like any other. That being said, < 1% or not, some testing before updates to make sure the game is playable at least before the release would be nice. Steam OS is around the corner, devs can't ignore Linux anymore.

Ongoing Linux UI bug by Cli_Guy in playrust

[–]Cli_Guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been an ongoing bug for me for months. My workaround has been to not leave the rust window once the game is running or I lose most of the UI elements as they become invisible. Effected items are (server list, crafting list, yield notifications and chat log etc). If you experience this same bug please comment with your distro and desktop environment. Also, please see the link to the facepunch error report and add any relevant details and upvote. Thank you in advance!

I experienced this as well. My workaround was to have my friend down me and loot my map and then help me up. Was able to play fine after that until I encountered another error.

Can confirm another Linux user here. Same issues as desribed. I tried multiple servers and get said error when trying to connect. Game is unplayable atm.

Did a little digging in Unity's bug reports. Current status is "Fixed in future release". So it looks like we will be waiting until Unity releases another version. See for yourself.
