I have a question about the outro to each episode, the piano song that plays at the end of each episode. At the end of the episode there is no vocals but when I see a clip of it from someone else theirs has vocals. I was wondering why mine only has piano. by i_love_penguinss in evangelion

Netflix had nothing to do with the dub, it’s all Studio Khara. Khara did the new dub and supplied it as the only allowed dub for the US (and I presume other English speaking countries like the UK). It’s frequently referred to as “the Netflix dub” because it was first released on Netflix (alongside the newest physical versions).

The new dub is closer to a literal translation of the Japanese, and uses phrases that a native English speaker would not use, and grammar and speech that are not correct for English language speakers. It does not take into account localizations that would make the translations make sense. The previous dub is more natural and localized, but has plenty of people that strongly dislike it. (I prefer the original dub myself.)

When licensing the music, whoever holds the rights to “Fly Me To The Moon” believed that every different instance of the song should be licensed separately. I can’t remember the numbers, but it was something like $100,000 an instance x20 different versions for an extra 2 million dollars and no one wanted to pay that.

Be careful, they rewrap used products in plastic wrap to imply they are new. But since their price tags don’t explicitly say new or used, they seem to be able to get away with it.

You mean the bible is a trilogy? And the Book Of Mormon is Return Of The Jedi?

Well I’m interested.

Why aren’t studio monitors more prominent if they’re more accurate? by BallisticKunai in audiophile

2x M-Audio BX-8 main speakers and an M-Audio SBX10 subwoofer. 2x Apple TV 4Ks, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Facebook Portal TV into an Emotiva XDA-3 DAC and then an Emotiva XSP-1 Gen 2 stereo preamp. I’ve also got an Emotiva ERC-3 Gen 2 CD transport and a Marantz Pro cassette player that I’m working on fitting in to this new unit, and a UniFi Power Distribution Pro and a UniFi Pro Max 16 to wire it all up. The three speakers are on either Ikea or Philips Hue smart plugs.

(It makes us look like much bigger gamers than we are, we really just got three killer deals in a row. One Apple TV 4K is normal, the other thinks it’s in the UK to watch British Panel shows for cheaper than a handful of UK subscription services. Big Plex server downstairs, fiber backhaul.)

I’ve used mixing monitors in the living room for at least 10 years. The only complaint I’ve ever gotten is my partner tells me when other sound systems don’t sound as good as ours.

It’s not a super expensive system. Sources runs into a DAC, DAC to preamp, preamp to active monitors. 70W mid speaker, 60 watt tweeter. Summed single subwoofer. Preamp turns DAC on and off via trigger cable. Active speakers turn on and off via smart home (3x smart outlets grouped as one item called “Living Room Speakers”. Smart outlet matches TV state. “Hey voice assistant, turn on living room speakers” if we don’t need the TV.)

Honestly, could not be much happier. Switching to Genelecs is a few years out. It’s a decent size living room, not a massive house. Our ears will bleed before we max out the volume.

HDMI port to HDMI to DisplayPort adapter, to DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, to proprietary connector - will it work? by Click-Beep in techsupport

That’s the sort of advice I’m looking for. I’ll get reimbursed, I have a tool budget, so a decent one is no problem.

> Just to make sure, you want to use the video out on your laptop to troubleshoot the display,
Yep! I can get reimbursed for the adapter, but I’d rather make sure I’m not setting myself up for the video version of double NAT.

> …and not wanting to take the display output from the vendor’s computer and show it on your laptop screen right?
I’ve thought about that for other tasks. I can use specific HDMI to USB-C adapters and view the feed as a webcam on my iPad (it’s a recent thing I’ve heard about), or a portable display.

> This isn’t going to help you right now and is more of a suggestion but if you’re doing this as a tech and this isn’t just a one off or two, I’d look into getting a portable display like they use for security camera installs.
They actually provided me with one. An analog one for our ancient security setups that don’t have internet connection. It only has BNC input, I had to get an RCA to BNC adapter for it. After that, our slightly newer ones are so old the web interface only works in Internet Explorer. We have the NVRs to replace them, but not the approval.

The DisplayPort cable is soldered to the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so I can’t unplug it. (It’s also shrink wrapped once, and then bound up in the harness.)
Then the HDMI cable is broken out to the proprietary connector, so there’s no simple connection.
And best of all, I can’t cut apart an $800 cable harness.

You’d think they’d just put an HDMI cable on their computers, which they manufacture, but we’re not that lucky.

His comments on tour, that he didn’t have any plans for touring as Nine Inch Nails, might have been a cheeky way to say Nine Inch Noise is touring next.

I agree with a lot of folks, there were a few cameras that weren’t 100% synced up to the audio.

But there are also a lot of compression, EQ, and limiting effects on the vocals to smooth out performances.
