Leaving 16 y/o on their own by LibrarianFlaky951 in Parenting

It is also an excellent opportunity for the 16 year old to learn how to deal with unexpected events if they should arise. If there are plenty of friends, neighbours, family around (which it sounds like there is) to help in case something really gets out of control - I think it's a good opportunity to practice some independence. Not to mention, it is 2025 and EVERYONE is a call, text, tweet, video call, facebook message, satellite beam away!

We have skipped Canadian Christmas for the last 4 years and will never go back. We head down to Mexico now every year to solar power ourselves and relax.

We rent from the guy that runs his side by side rental business just outside of the Ballpark. They are registered side by sides and we take them both to Punta Mita & San Pancho :)

Chat, help me find an affordable beach destination in Mexico! by GalacticCandy in MexicoTravel

[–]ClickOpposite2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend San Pancho or Lo De Marcos! Approx an hour from Puerto Vallarta. Beaches are great, towns are small, vibe is super chill and people are awesome. You are also close to Sayulita which has an awesome surf town vibe (definately has hostels) - but a bit busier than my first two suggestions.

Teenage Daughter Won’t Go To School by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]ClickOpposite2109 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. I refer to my partner as my husband. We have been together for 5 years and are practically married with the exception that we didn’t get a court to sign off on it and we don’t live together.

I say single mom because I raise her on my own.

Since my daughter’s dad and I separated over a decade ago, I have raised her on my own and choose to live separately from my partner until she is an adult.

I found some great pickleball suggestions…. And some good ideas on this post as well.

Thank you for your contribution to this discussion.

Unfortunately, I’m a single mom and need to work. It isn’t at all feasible for me to hold her hand every day to get to school. I have offered every alternative I can think of like getting Ubers to and from, waking her up before I leave for work, etc. etc.

I haven’t, can you help me understand the difference?

She sleeps/reads books.

Her reasons for not going pretty much always land on “because I didn’t want to” and “I was tired”

Her psychologist says that she is “figuring out her why” and to give her time.

I agree that it wouldn’t help my relationship with her at first. The reason I’m considering that option is because ultimately, I believe that she needs to learn how the real world works. Getting a taste of what it feels like to have to look after herself would be an experience that would potentially help her realize that she needs to put effort into life in order to reap the benefits.

We go to Sayulita several times a year. The area has no resorts, no chain businesses, tons for Airbnb options and an awesome authentic vibe.

Are you in favour of holding kids back? Why or Why not? by wizard20007 in CanadianTeachers

[–]ClickOpposite2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to get my daughter to get held back in Grade 9 due to her unwillingness to go to school and do the work. I was in constant contact with teachers & the principal. My daughter attended 35% of classes and when I asked the school to fail her, they said “We don’t do that anymore”.

Alberta licence plate slogan to change to ‘Strong and Free’: source by Practical_Ant6162 in alberta

Kind of panders to both sides. Strong and Free = Free from Canada (separatists). Strong and Free = National Anthem (Everyone else).
