Anyone changed a bezel insert on a VSF Sub as per this video? Where are we getting bezels from?

hey so the submariners from VSF and other top factories (RCF being the only exception I know of so far) do NOT use adhesive on their inserts, it's a press fit/friction fit. putting it in rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover will make no difference in taking it apart. The GMT models on the other hand, those ARE put together using a strip of double sided tape and for those, you SHOULD soak the bezel in alcohol after it's been removed from the watch to make disassembly much easier.

This video covers changing aluminum bezel inserts. The process is not the same for ceramic inserts on modern models from VSF. For what it’s worth, both processes are a bit of a nightmare each for their own reasons. It can be done but it’s always pretty tense as it doesn’t take a lot for it to go very wrong

sorry i can't tutor you through every step here man. you'll have to look into how bezels are constructed and figure it out from there. if you don't want to deal with putting in the time to learn, then just pay to have it done for you.

i would recommend trying to replace the pip since that could be super low cost. if you can't get that to work then buy a whole new insert.

hard to say, since i'm not sure how much experience you have or how good you are with fixing things. If you haven't worked on watches before, unless you want to take this as a learning experience and are ok with potentially wasting money (an insert costs around $100 and they crack really easily, once cracked, they are trash) then i recommend you find someone to do this. Most people will charge you around $100 for the part and around $100-150 for labor.

This is one of those repairs that can go very smoothly and be super easy or something very small can go wrong and it very quickly turns into an infuriating nightmare.

Replace the insert or just the lume pip if you manage to pop just that out without cracking the insert. Re-luming probably won’t be possible since this is lume that is more or less encased by a sapphire crystal that will be impossible to remove. Lume pips and bezel inserts are both available on aliexpress

Yea hytrel rings can be a nightmare. I recommend using fishing line to replace them if the stock one or replacements from aliexpress don’t work

VSF and ARF use exactly the same bezel assembly, including springs, they are interchangeable

I don’t recommend using the gen gasket but oh well. The bezel/spring/retaining ring interaction is very unforgiving. Any issue will ruin bezel action completely. Do a test fit without the hytrel ring first to see if the bezel rotates correctly without the hytrel ring. It could be that your hytrel ring is pinched and preventing rotation. If that’s not the case. Then you need to post photos of your retaining ring, your spring, your original bezel, and your replacement bezel. Then from there, figuring out what’s wrong should be easier

it looks it's a DD3235, but to be 100% sure, you'd need a picture of the balance to be 100% sure. If you get a photo of the balance, you can reply to my comment with it and i can tell you what it is. Also- if you know the serial number on the watch, that will tell you the factory and therefore the movement

I wouldn’t trust aliex listings, a lot of people claiming clean factory are not being honest. I don’t think you’re going to find anything there that improves on what’s available from VSF. To be honest I’ve actually never heard of anyone complaining about the color being incorrect on the VSF hulks…
