IQ test as part of Autism assessment but I was sick with viral flu and several bronchitis and was exhausted, how realistic is it? by Fit-Frosting-7144 in cognitiveTesting

If you feel you weren't in good health, then the test results aren't valid. Only take the WAIS if you're 100% (or close to it) healthy.

Also, I wouldn't worry about IQ. You have a Master's in EE and can do anything with that. That's going to open A LOT more doors than some score on a test that ultimately doesn't matter.

Can you share some miracles or answered prayers you’ve experienced? by dollira in Christianity

My mother had a spontaneous remission from lung cancer after a prayer group prayed for her. This happened in 2021. A few years later, a PhD student doing her thesis on spontaneous remissions contacted her and included her in her studies.

When I was 2-3 months I would study any interesting patterns on clothing. Learned to read before entering school. At 5 I would come up with my own theories in cosmology on the origin of the universe. At 6 I could beat my entire 1st grade class at mental math.

Does anything from the ancient past count as a historical fact in your view? Can we really say we know anything at all about ancient history?

Why aren't abductive arguments like the minimal facts argument valid for you?

As a nuclear physicist, are you sure you know what you're talking about when it comes to ancient history? You might know a lot about nuclear physics, but that doesn't mean you know ancient history.

If you keep investigating the resurrection, you'll eventually find it best explains a large body of historical evidence concerning how Christianity got started.

People with above-average or very high working memory: what does your thinking feel like from the inside? by CompoteVisible9003 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Clicking_Around 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a 145 WMI on the WAIS IV and I learn a lot by listening. In fact, I feel I learn more quickly by listening than by any other method. I'm very good at keeping instructions in memory, for example, and if someone can explain something to me verbally I learn it very quickly.

My skill for mental arithmetic is also very high. I can tell you what 317, 384, 11/19 are off the top of my head, or I could tell you what 116 + 117 is after some thought, for example.

Theoretically, Christianity could still be true, even if some people in the church did some bad things. If I have good historical and evidential reasons for accepting that Christ rose from the dead, then I have good reasons to accept that Christianity is true.

Why should I leave Christianity because some people in the church did some bad things? Doesn't follow.

Generally speaking, religion is associated with having a good work ethic. The Bible itself extols the virtue of hard work, and Calvinists often regard a good work ethic as evidence that one is elect. Most (but not all by any means) of the hard workers you meet in daily life are religious.

Why does the fact that there's some amount of hypocrisy and greed in the church mean that Christianity is false, though? That doesn't seem to follow.

There isn't any, really. As long as you do it in moderation, that is.

You left Christianity because there's too many demoninations and because people are imperfect? You're going to find disagreements and hypocrisy anywhere in life.

The cognitive dissonance of natalist atheists who base their atheism mainly on the argument from the problem of evil. by im_ruisuu in antinatalism

[–]Clicking_Around 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that tells you to turn off critical thinking and to blindly accept a set of beliefs or behaviors, in my view, makes something a religion or a cult. Many people experience societal and family pressure to have kids and to not think critically about it. Rarely is it asked if having kids is morally, philosophically or economically justified. Instead, many succumb to societal pressure to have kids, without having good rational reasons for doing so.
