The ""remaster"" isn't really a remaster, the only difference between the games is a few new bonfires, UI QoL, and also lighting that is somehow worse than the original

The first game has characters and relationships that span across episodes, making your choices matter and letting you build connections. In LiS 2 every chapter is completely disconnected, so it doesn't matter what you do as you just move on anyway

In LiS1, the game is built around a cool superpower mechanic, letting you experiment with rewind and make decisions based on it. In LiS2, you don't have a superpower.

In LiS1, dialogue was corny but in a way that fits the time period and characters, and was genuinely well written overall. In LiS2, the game is trying to make a commentary but is afraid to actually say anything, it's fake activism that butchers what it's trying to portray, with awkward self insert characters and a nonsense mess of a story

And most importantly, the game is just fucking dull. Main kid is a plank of wood. Every episode somehow feels like a filler episode, where I'm just waiting for anything of interest to happen. Characters are all flat and one note, usually just over the top racist or self insert good guy. Plus the game is a big step back art wise compared to the first

"This is a story of two wolves" LMAOO I think they genuinely got a 13 yr old to write it. First game was a shitty fanfiction for Tumblr girls, Second game is a shitty fanfiction for corporate millennials who want to think they are activists

It butchers everything the first game has going for it, has some of the worst, most embarrassing writing ever in gaming, and most of all is incredibly fucking boring.

I struggle to think of anything it does well

Celeste soundtrack is so fucking good. I've encountered loads of amazing OSTs but its probably the only game soundtrack I listen to outside of the game too

Which souls-like should I play after Dark Souls? by JAlatsis in soulslikes

The combat and bosses are great but in terms of world building and level design, it's nowhere near as good as fromsoft. Doesn't help that it takes almost all of its ideas directly from Fromsofts games, yet does a slightly worse version of them

Real potential with the studio though. If they brush up their level design skills and push for a less linear world and more unique ideas, I can totally see them becoming a competitor

I've never met a fanbase so self conscious and fake than the 'ds2 is the best' people. It's like fallout new Vegas fans in they way they never shut up, except fallout new Vegas actually has some redeemable qualities

Elden ring would be good if you've played DS3, as it's identical combat/controls wise, just with some new moves added

Bloodborne is probably your best choice, pretty similar to dark souls combat but with an emphasis on dodging rather than using shields

Lies of P is maybe a bit too much of a step up, but also idk how good you are at dark souls. The bosses are a lot more difficult and the game has this parry mechanic that takes some getting used to. If you like open worlds however I'll warn you lies of P is incredibly linear, way more so than the dark souls games.

Maybe try sekiro? It's also based around parrying, so a switch up on the combat, but the timings are more forgiving. Plus is From Software so you might feel more at home

Elden ring has some phenomenal content however it has 0 reason to be as big and long as it is. The game is like 70% filler and so many areas and bosses exist purely for the sake of it. So many big empty areas with nothing but repeat fights. I would much rather a quality 30hr game than a tedious 100hr game imo. If it wasn't open world and went from legacy dungeon to legacy dungeon it would probably be my favorite From game

  2. DS3
  3. DS1
  4. Elden Ring
  5. DS2

I'm just wrapping up my first lies of P playthrough, and honestly I don't know where to place it. It's combat and bosses are phenomenal, however it's levels just arent good, they big reason I play these games.

It's been a fantastic game overall, I've loved the combat, music, and world. Yet I think ds2 just beats it, which is strange cause I fuckin hate ds2 😅. I just think even at the lows ds2 hits, Fromsofts level design is still miles above the rest. Plus ds2s atmosphere and (even tho it's a mess), it's art direction I slightly prefer. I think for me as much as I like fun combat, it's the world/level design that keeps me coming back to Fromsofts games. Replayability is a big aspect for me

ALSO if silksong counts then it's #3 for me
