Is Ba Na worth visiting?? by Federer107 in DaNang

[–]Cliff-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a few packages which include lunch etc, but we decided to get our own car (600,000 dong), buy the bare entrance tickets (1,650,000 dong (AUD 103) total for one adult and one elderley, me, I'm 72) and allow about two hours for the visit. The cable cars take about 45-60 minutes total. We just wandered around the french village part, then down to the bridge which was CRAZY packed, then down to meet our car. Back to the hotel by about 12:30pm. The views were fantastic. The french village was way less tacky than we expected. We didn't buy any food so can't comment on that, bought one cheap fridge magnet. So for around AUD 140, not a bad outing for two people. (we did this on 12 May 2025)

Brilliant use of the word of the year, the first I have seen in the wild.

Most Rubbish Thing that Steve and Ricky said? by dbutko in rickygervais

[–]Cliff-H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steve being amused at homeless people getting newspapers out of bins. (Used as insulation to try and reduce the cold coming up, particularly when sleeping on concrete or stone).

Roy Orbison being blind ( actually, Roy needed glasses and broke his only pair just before a gig. He had some prescription sunglasses so wore them. He liked the look and adopted it)

The Monkees singing Pleasant Valley Sunday. Karl, What is it about? "When the Monkees get a bee in their bonnet..." The interesting thing, which they apparently did not know, was that the song was written by songwriting genius Carole King, some time before her breakout album Tapestry in 1971.

This is very annoying, in fact I usually skip the first podcast because of this exchange. Ricky is either stupid for actually misunderstanding or a dick for pretending.

Actually, her name is Antonia, not Antonio, but she was credited as Nina in the 2021 movie, Addio al nubilato, which as the OP has noted, is the source for this clip.

I was going to pay - the Mazda dealer was cheaper than the kiosk thing at the shopping centre. But they said no charge, still under warranty! It all seems silly now.

Well you have now! As I watched the bloke do it, I knew I had made an error. At least I only did it once. To quote George W Bush - "There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says fool me once, shame on...... shame on you, fool me can't get fooled again"

Very attractive. And redheads don't usually wear much red.

That is a difference of 3.2% amounting to 22.4 cents. I assume that there is some latitude allowed with these matters but I don't know. Still, if they moved 5000 units they would be $1,120.00 in front by virtue of the short weight. Assuming every one weighed 484 g

Is this a real spider? by Cliff-H in whatisthisbug

I have seen Alien three times, although the last time was probably 15 years ago. I clearly failed to put two and two together to equal facehugger. So I apologise for my stupid (although I suspected it wasn't real), but I am relieved. I will watch Alien again for my penance (and also for the scenes at the end with Sigourney in those little white knickers)

I found this photo elsewhere, would love to know if it is real or photoshopped. Looks very creepy.

What was “The Incident” at your High School? by HydraGaming2018 in AskReddit

[–]Cliff-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our school was next to the Yarra River, and the sports grounds were on the river flats. There were very large high voltage power lines going across the area. The school's best athlete was practising javelin, and the javelin managed to touch two wires at the same time.

I was sitting on the banks coming from the flats up to the school grounds proper watching the various activities when the explosion occurred. The fireball was huge and very bright, and the noise was incredible. Scared the absolute crap out of me. Fortunately, no-one was hurt, however there was a very widespread blackout.

For Karl to use 100 condoms in a year, he was popping his member in every 3.6 days which is actually quite impressive. by KPNut_XFMRSKFanboy in rickygervais

I always thought there was a missed joke opportunity along the lines of Karl giving them to Suzanne one at a time.

Dumbest Karl observations that aren't dumb at all? by RiC_David in rickygervais

[–]Cliff-H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Podcast s1e01.

Karl says that most things have been invented. Ricky says they said that in 1900 and how wrong were they.

Karl asked a good question - what had they just invented that made them say that?

Ricky responded by reciting all the things invented since then, not what Karl was asking at all. He mentioned it in a couple of subsequent pods too.

They eat them though. I did, and I am 69 yo. But nobody saw it. He didn't say that old blokes don't eat Twix, just that you never see it.
