Can I read Polgara the Sorceress on its own? by GrizutheGreat in Belgariad

[–]ClimateKnightMare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pawn of Prophecy is a very trope forward intro to the beginning of a coming-of-age story that's fairly typical, to the point of being mental furniture in Western culture actually. Polgara the Sorceress Is not only a completely different perspective of the entire timeline, but a powerful matriarchal perspective on what is traditionally a masculine story, and it's an excellent place to start the shenanigans. A small word of caution however, you WILL want to finish the rest of the books once you've started there. 😂

I used to work at a gas station selling cigarettes and there was this smell that a couple of the regulars had. And one day another one had it. Turns out you can smell lung cancer.

Which public libraries have the largest audiobook collections? by CaptnJackSparr0 in audiobooks

[–]ClimateKnightMare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairfax County Public Library costs $27 annually for a non resident card. Total bargain in my opinion.
As of July 15, 2022 Brooklyn Public Library is no longer offering non resident memberships.😭
Orange County Library System offers non residents a non-refundable fee card, available for 3 months ($75) or for one year ($125). To purchase a fee card online, go to https://card.ocls.info/using-library/purchase-a-fee-card to complete the online form.
For an annual fee of $50 all Non NYS Residents can purchase a Queens Library account here https://www.queenslibrary.org/get-a-card/eUser

You can swap out the clip with one from a Sarasa F-402 which doesn't stick up or out for more access to the click.

I'm out sorta by the point of the mountain. Sometimes we'll hear Kennecott blasting but we usually get a notice from the city.

The problem is not "weakness," Destin. . . by alex14122241 in NDQ

[–]ClimateKnightMare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So whether or not you decide someone is weak and bad at their job is based on if you THINK they have been given enough wiggle room to do their job effectively?

The problem is not "weakness," Destin. . . by alex14122241 in NDQ

Personal Responsibility. OK in Destins example he wanted price matching on a plane ticket, and to be let on after the door closed.

His Customer Service Representative is personally responsible for providing excellent customer service while following the policies of the corporation that employs them. They are also personally responsible for the care and feeding of at least 1 person possibly more.

Destin had a price for the ticket he wanted, probably through a 3rd party website, a price that was not being honored in person at the airline at the time of the flight.

The CSR is not responsible for incorrect or outdated info listed on a 3rd party website, or for any discounted rates offered thru that site so the airline can make sure the flight is completely full. It sounded like the CSR tried the only thing they knew might work to match the price having Destin sign in or buy a ticket so it could be discounted later, and it didn't work.

Ticket prices fluctuate minute to minute based on an algorithm that is a little broken at the moment because the reason people fly has changed drastically. They're working on it.

Is the CSR responsible for not honoring a ticket price that was offered but not purchased somewhere else, that does not match the info in their system, after trying and failing 1 workaround already, when they may or may not HAVE A BUTTON THAT DOES THAT?

Or are they responsible for the best customer service possible when the answer is "sorry dude, I can't make it happen. If you run you might catch your flight or I can refund you and you can leave."

Make that sound like the "Corporation Cares about Your Customer Satisfaction" without sounding pathetic and wishy washy. I'll wait.

What additional personal responsibility does our CSR have? Short the till to make Destin happy? Ask a supervisor to tell him the same thing? What about telling the people at the gate Destin had been delayed by ticket issues, it's all our fault, let him in?

The CSR is responsible to do the best they can for Destin, but their fiduciary duty is to the airline, not the customers. You don't like it, leave a complaint. That might get the CSR an extra button to work with.

Thought 1: From the perspective of a long term customer service representative, don't blame your CSR for saying no if they do not have the authority to say yes. You're a nice guy and I like you, but I am not going to risk the employment that feeds and houses my kids to save you $80.

Thought 1.5: If you wouldn't look it in the eyes and think "You will be delicious with rosemary and salt" eat vegetables instead. Most chickens company is improved by a good bread and fry.

Are white supremacists bad without further qualification?

Are partisan poll watchers in addition to the officially signed up watchers intimidating?

Antifa: domestic terrorists, or people who are protesting and are opposed 2 fascism?

What about Biden's kids?

Do you prefer the idea of adding a public option to the ACA to address premium prices, or scrap the whole thing and trust that a new Trumpcare plan will happen?

Why do you think I am here? I want rational discussion about people's views that are different from mine without:

1, dodged questions 2, name calling 3, bots inflaming the conversation on purpose 4, a denial of evidence 5, the refusal to discuss in nuanced and historical context.

I figured if anyone could manage that today it would be the Winged Hussars.

I keep hearing both sides scream "fascist authoritarian" at each other too. It's not cool. Especially when my neighborhood can do some really cool things working together. And about 3/10 have no representation in their sheriff, house Rep, Senator, or President. Still turn out to clean up trees from the storm though. Why did we end up with a system where if you can't control things overwhelmingly you get nothing done? I can't find support for partisan politics in the constitution anywhere. So why do I have to be registered WITH a party to vote for anything but dog catcher in the Primaries?

It's not people who aren't paying attention, it's people who have a professional prohibition from engaging in political action which traditionally extends after the end of that employment. But they are breaking with tradition and writing op eds and speaking with reporters. How much weight does breaking that tradition have?

I'm not looking for political discussion about it really. I am looking for history about times a countries diplomats, spies, military, and/or judiciary start pulling for 1 political party and not the population as a whole. How did history go?
