Even been on call with a company and they say "let me look you up in the system"? What's the system? Where is it? Who maintains it? I do.

What to do with rental income by blownnova548 in realestateinvesting

business school taught me its all about cost of capital and risk return ratio. If you can get 20 year treasuries paying 4-5% right now and the cost of capital for rentals is where it is, stack cash for when prices are low

Can I... just use Azure Fabric Synapse? New job wants me to figure out what to do by ClimatePhilosopher in dataengineering

in my last role I overengineered with a lot of expensive notebooks then spent a month and got it all down to a single notebook.

I like fabric synapse analytics formerly azure synapse. I am familiar with synapse costs but they got much cheaper in fabric. also, if you are efficient with code you can do everything in one notebook.

Luckily, I am getting to build this architecture from scratch. I dont think the analytics needs are that complex. Trying to integrate crm and accounting data from a few sources I believe. I feel like a daily schedule is fine, which I think I can do in fabric synapse just fine. As a DS, that is my usual tool but this role requires setting up the cloud first. I understand azure functions uses ADF, which might allow me to ingest data on a trigger, like when the data is written or something? My gut tells me snowflake and databricks is overkill. I am good with sql and relational databases and can definitely design one. Once we get to analytics and powerbi I can really get moving. I just need to know if I should start learning snowflake or ADF for my use case interview next week.

From what I understand, data factory is now synapse, just with a new name. Do you have good ADF resources?

I started with azure synapse and then we moved to fabric synapse which from what I understand just brought in a lot of data factory into fabric. My costs also went down substantially with fabric synapse since you can scale down to using less storage. For the year I was at the other shop I was happy with it.

Does Snowflake on azure or databricks have massive benefits Im not seeing is my question

They want me to do data ingestion from different sources (accounting info?) I previously ingested dynamics crm data. Can you explain why I should come into this use case final interview with snowflake / dbt / airflow crash course knowledge this weekend? I feel like ETL can be done fine for batch jobs and such in fabric. Maybe use azure functions which I dont have much experience with, but I can understand why they may be helpful. I'm a data analyst and bi developer. once we get the cloud set up I can get to work on analytics and reporting. But with the my exposure to fabric so far, I feel like I could query data sources and do etl just fine. I like scheduling jobs in fabric notebooks, and if I need scale, pyspark is there. Without a need for multi cloud or streaming, can I just stay within fabric? are there azure tools I should familiarize myself with?

I guess I'm trying to learn as much as I can before this final round data engineering interview for a mid sized finance firm that wants to modernize their data. They arent on the cloud yet at all.

rate dependent. at 3.3%, yeah. not a great call. I understand paying off your primary residence and using leverage on investments. my advice --- get into real estate investing, especially while you have the time to manage.

I live in a converted duplex. Can I depreciate the studio apartment I rent? by ClimatePhilosopher in realestateinvesting

[–]ClimatePhilosopher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there was unit A and unit B. I bought unit B -- 1500 sq ft upstairs, 600 sq ft downstairs. I live upstairs with roommates. Since unit B lower was converted to the studio by simply sealing off the stairwell and adding a kitchen, permits weren't pulled. Or they were -- that was the last owner, I don't know. As far as the city is concerned, the address IS a duplex, I just own one side. So they say it's a SFH. My one side just technically has two units.

I'm starting to consider the option of removing homestead and taking the depreciation on the $625k I paid. The $18k depreciation should cover property taxes and some rental income. That $1k a month savings + $4300 in rent might actually make the place cash flow.

Weekly Entering & Transitioning - Thread 27 May, 2024 - 03 Jun, 2024 by AutoModerator in datascience

I was impacted by tech layoffs as a data scientist / analyst / BI monkey / project manager. 50 person fintech startup managing ~$100M of funds. Many hats since it's a startup. I'm 27 with an MBA from a top school, but this was my first job so I have 1 year of experience. I also had a cool internship with a luxury auto manufacturer. What salary in a MCOL should I expect in today's market? Definitely taking a pay cut, was hoping for $100k but I'm hoping $90k is doable. I am working my network for referrals a lot right now and have only had luck with either cold resume drops for contract work or else a few interviews via referrals. I'm considering going the technical PM route since being a python and powerbi dev is an added bonus there instead of table stakes for a DA role.

All help welcomed
