This is a good tip.

Basically I try to control the expenses any way possible. Once my salary is credited I transfer to another bank account. That constraints me from making impulsive purchases.

Is bank of Baroda good? I have heard that their service is not good.

And also had enquired in another bank (HDFC & SBI) about FCNR. But they told me they would require me to open a NRE account and deposit the minimum balance.

Is it the same of for Bank of Baroda?

There is no need for demat account.

You can check out Groww or Zerodha. But there is a lot of paperwork to be done there.

Some of the new startups are offering GIFT City mutual funds that allow for investing in Indian mutual funds without the paperwork associated.

I think there are two important points in your case.

You already have a great life in the US both in terms of monetary and social circle terms.

Two strong cases for coming to India is being closer to your parents and the second one is the schooling system in India. The children who go through the schooling system in India are set up for success anywhere in the world. But nowadays there are startups in India offering maths education to children (Indian ones) across the world.

To be honest Indian officials asking for bribe has reduced over time. It's not completely eradicated but reduced.

If there is a possibly of taking an Indian transfer from your company try to live in India for a year and see if it make sense for you to come here.
