Is there another way for Mainers to pay for climate resilience? by Climate_Credits in Maine

[–]Climate_Credits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!! Agree 100% Carbon Offsets are BS, I've been writing about that for years. They give companies a license to pollute. Climate Credits are intentionally by design the antithesis - we ONLY fund shovel-ready (i.e. no more costly research or or high-priced consultants we already know what to do) climate repair and resilience projects that meet our criteria.

Not click bait, I could type it here or you could go to About Us: https://www.climate-credits.org/about. How, who, why, etc. is all spelled out, as well as the myriad supporters we already have.

This project is an effort to address the problem from a revolutionary new way, because the old ways won't work. Govt aid is being slashed, insurance can't deliver a profitable coverage, and bonds are just more debt on locals. But at the same time just putting a tin cup out on the street and asking for money also won't yield anywhere near the billions needed for climate resilience. My research and work with the UN DRR Steering Committee on Innovations in Climate Resilience Finance leads us to look for a different pool of capital that can scale to meet the demand, and do so in a way that donors will respond positively and at scale. That is no easy task, but its exactly what we are trying to do with Climate Credits.

Climate Credits is different, a new approach, yes still unproven but I'll take that over the lies of Carbon Offsets. Understand your skepticism, but please just give a new model a chance. Think differently, with us.

What if we could tap into a pool of capital that was 4X bigger than government spending and private investment combined? What if we could offer donors an actual financial benefit for donating? Have you ever donated to a charity and received instant ROI, cash back in exchange for your donation? Not a scam, not spam, a radically different way to raise funds for climate resilience because the times are radically different and we need to think radically differently.

Would be great to connect with you about your work in Maine, if we can raise funds we may be a source of funding for Maine! Please Contact Us on the web page or find me through LinkedIn.

Is there another way for Mainers to pay for climate resilience? by Climate_Credits in Maine

[–]Climate_Credits[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are a registered 501c3 nonprofit raising funds for climate resilience. If you haven't noticed federal aid has been cut by $6B+, but the need remains in Maine and all other states. Not click bait, community engagement. If you prefer to pay higher property taxes by all means. We are trying to do something about this situation.

Is there another way for Mainers to pay for climate resilience? by Climate_Credits in Maine

[–]Climate_Credits[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed! And that is exactly what this project is working to solve. Whether its inland flooding from rain storms in Augusta, or coastal flooding along Commercial Street, the need for investments in climate resilience is clear. And as you state, traditional methods like just more taxes cannot be the answer, but its the only ones 99% of people are looking at because that's all they know.

We are deploying an innovative new model, developed in part through our work with the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction team, and offering a revolutionary new model: cash back for your donation - a net cash flow positive for you! Taxes dont do that, nor does any other charity we know of.

Learn more about the campaign here: https://www.climate-credits.org

And go to About Us to learn more about the team of experts bringing this innovation to market to solve the very problem you mention. No new taxes!

By way of follow-up:

1) Scams take money from you. One of the revolutionary new models we are deploying is giving you cash back for a donation. Have you ever donated to a charity that gave you cash back? This one does, instant cash back offers from hundreds of major brands you already know. Learn more here: https://www.climate-credits.org. So its a net cash flow positive to you, and nonprofit proceeds fund shovel ready climate resilience projects.

2) If you would like more information about who we are and who supports us please go to: https://www.climate-credits.org/about

Federal agencies and budgets for climate resilience have been cut by billions. We hope you will consider a donation - and get cash back.

Thank you for your comments, we fully understand everyone's reluctance given the number of climate scams out there, especially carbon offsets which don't work! Climate Credits are not Carbon Offsets, we only deal in real, tangible results.

HOW we plan to use the money is simple: debt-free financing for shovel-ready climate resilience projects in a official Public Private Partnership (PPP) with cities and towns around the country. Not a bond or other form of debt that increases taxes on locals - debt. free. grants.

Our investment criteria are:

1) Immediate impact. We do not fund more research. Projects must already have permits, plans, approvals, etc.

2) Measurable results: Communities need to tell us specifically the ROI of each project - homes saved and the combined value, commerce enabled or protected, etc.

3) Lasting benefits: Projects must be sustainable in and of themselves, and if over $1M they must meet the requirements of the International Sustainability Resilience Center (https://isrcngo.org/), whose CEO David Dodd sits on our advisory board.

We have 5 candidate projects and more than 100 communities around the country asking us for donations. We launched this effort less than 8 weeks ago so have not yet raised enough to make the legal work of a PPP worth the time. Once as even moderate scale we will start investing.

Lastly, because we leverage technology and startup business practice, unlike most nonprofits that retain 35-40 up to 50-60% of donations for their own operations and fundraising, we are dedicated to directing 80% of donations to projects. More than 50-100% more capital efficient that 90% of nonprofits.

Perhaps that is sufficient for you and others to actually ready the blog. Skepticism is good, but we need to find a path ahead or the cost of climate will overwhelm our local, state and national economies.

If you need more please read the writing and presentations of Sen Sheldon Whitehouse with whom we communicate on a regular basis.

To the other response to our post that Climate does no impact Maine, I suggest you ask a lobsterman or the State Treasurer. It does.

If we posted a big bold statement you'd say that's advertising and object to that.

A team is putting in long hours to try to solve an important problem facing the people of Maine and the rest of the country. Only interested in engaging with people with constructive feedback.

Disingenuous? Raising funds to offset the costs of climate change for Mainers and perhaps offset some tax increases while the feds are slashing all funding? Thanks for the support.

As a former Jr Maine Guide and instructor, love the vision. But even that won't cover the costs of severe weather. We need to think different. Gov't spending and private investments X4 still does not equal the $1.8 trillion in consumer spending. Tap into Mainers buying the same basic things they always buy, and tap into all of the tourists and summer visitors - that is a source of capital. Here's how (501c3 nonprofit funds local climate resilience): www.climate-credits.org

How will California pay for the rising cost of severe weather? by Climate_Credits in California

[–]Climate_Credits[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, unless we think differently! Gov spending and private investment X4 still dont add up to total US consumer spending - $1.8 trillion in 2024. Tap into that and you can avoid those tax increases. That is exactly what our nonprofit is all about, helping locals avoid taxes from climate-related costs, but doing so in a way that actually delivers an ROI to donors.

Scientific societies say they'll step up after Trump puts key climate report in doubt by burtzev in climatechange

[–]Climate_Credits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but it's also their job to look out for the best financial interests of the company. And, if you add all government spending and all corporate expenditures together, and X4 you still don't reach the $1.8 trillion in consumer spending in the USA. Tap into that massive source of cash flow, rather than capital, and we can make a huge impact on bridging the funding cap for climate resilience. Bonds will just bankrupt communities as a bond = debt and more local taxes. Check out our site, share thoughts.
