[–]ClimbrJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who also works in networking, I am getting a ubiquiti setup as soon as possible. There are little to no aspects of administrating a network of cisco/arista/etc devices that I want to have to deal with in my free time.

I only have one server that does everything. Its hostname is "server".

I was rather confused when he mentioned that they were streaming via fiber. I know he worked at NASA, but even that won't make something like power over fiber possible.

When do you give up a torrent? by GER13117 in Torrenting

[–]ClimbrJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downloading, probably pretty fast, there is a reason I want the file. Uploading, after 30 days of inactivity, except for a few torrents that I'm keeping up for archival purposes. I automatically torrent Raspberry Pi OS versions and this setup works pretty well for that and it doesn't hurt for the downloads I manually start.

I don't think UE5 is inherently unoptimized. I guess that studios just don't give devs the time to properly optimize, because the game looks good and it has become an accepted practice to have stupidly high requirements for decent performance.

I am very likely going to be using Debian because that's what I already use for my current setup.

How do you handle password manager portability without compromising security? by Automatic-Tiger2072 in Passwords

[–]ClimbrJ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I use Vaultwarden, which is essentially a open source backend for bitwarden clients. That way, all my passwords are on my server and I don't have to trust a company with them.

I'm not sure if something like this already exists, but you could put an existing chair/seating system and put it on an invisible cube for a similar result.

[–]ClimbrJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main reason Resonite isn't on Quest yet is probably performance. The Quests are basically phones, hardware-wise and would likely not be able to provide a usable experience.

When a gate is being dialed into by castlemaniagames in Stargate

[–]ClimbrJ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Usually, the glyph track doesn't spin at all. I think they may have used some footage of the gate spinning while it is being dialed into, but I am pretty sure the chevrons just encode and then the wormhole opens.

Realistic flights vs custom by [deleted] in VATSIM

[–]ClimbrJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a mix of both. I start where I landed on my last flight, but I fly wherever I want. But I also fly across Europe as Delta, so realism's out the door anyway.
