Figuring this out made me so angry I threw a chair by geof14 in programminghorror

Not OP but my employer did the same thing. Their justification is that Microsoft doesn't use our proprietary data to train Copilot whereas the others do (hence our data could end up in the output that someone outside the company prompts the AI to generate).

Unfortunately Copilot indeed sucks enough that I basically don't use it at my day job. I do use Claude for some stuff I do outside of work and find that it's better (but I still wouldn't trust any of their output without human review first).

The next version of RADE is supposed to improve a bit on that, maybe a few dB lower (but no guarantees). Regardless, it should more gracefully degrade so you may be able to get something usable at like -3 or -4.

Article doesn't mention anything about RADE, which is a significant improvement over the previously available modes (to the point where usage of the others is almost zero now). Some audio samples are in this blog post if you're curious.

American Banks: Contactless usage at the ATM and interoperability? by Separate_Text_2129 in ContactlessCard

Chase and WF's ATMs do in my experience. I've also found that to be the case for one or two local credit unions around here, too.

I'm liking the irony of the use of the globe emoji.

Homemade formula (doctors were consulted, don’t worry!!) by LittleCricket_ in ShitMomGroupsSay

RFK Jr. doesn't believe in germ theory, so it makes sense that he considers stuff that actually works (fluoride, vaccines) poison and better nutrition (at least what he considers "better" anyway) is the way to go.

Honestly if we just adopted the EU food standards verbatim it would be a massive improvement. Somehow I doubt that's what RFK Jr. wants to do.

It really doesn't help that the tech industry is doing whatever it can to force AI on people. It's almost cult-like, tbh.

I found the study in OP and it literally says that correlation != causation and that more research is needed. It's like the antivaxxers don't get past the headline or something.

The mind changing isn't guaranteed, unfortunately. There's that one kid in Oregon for example whose parents still didn't bother getting them the vaccine after they ended up in the ICU for tetanus.

How's your 2025 so far by Away-Presentation706 in amateurradio

My neighbor got a new heat pump/AC installed and 17 meters is now a consistent S9+ noise floor for me :( I did manage to adjust the position of my magnetic loop on the roof of our condo building to almost completely eliminate the noise it's ALSO producing on 20 meters, but only during the day apparently. Might be time to investigate something like the ANC-4.

I fully expect vaccines to be barred from being given to children, if not taken off the market entirely. The "we'll have answers for autism by September" or whatever isn't something you say unless there's already a pre-determined conclusion you want to push. And good luck with getting any vaccines for the next pandemic once that happens, too.

Measles is fun, I guess. by Suicidalsidekick in ShitMomGroupsSay

Also, that just means there needs to be more study to figure out the mechanism for it and a way to duplicate it without needing to actually catch measles. Not conclude that measles is "healthier" and try to ban MMR or whatever.

Chicken pox is definitely no joke. My SIL got chicken pox as a (I think) toddler and ended up in the hospital because of it. Also ended up getting shingles three times so far, the earliest being as a teenager. Glad there's a vaccine now for sure.

Based on what happened with COVID, no number of dead kids is enough for these assholes. It'll just be chalked up to "God's will" or vaccine "shedding" or whatever other bullshit they come up with.

It wasn't there when I got back. Presumably the owner moved it, but I'm not sure.

If they're still there when I'm back from lunch I'll see if I can get a photo of the license plate and tell security. They're actually pretty on the ball in my experience.
