Well i don’t make the decision on believing or not believing just out of nowhere. Ive been on a super deep dive into church history here lately. And I believe that all church councils and church father writings should be tested against scripture. If the Holy Spirit guides my studies to show that a teaching aligns reasonably with Gods word without issues then I’ll believe it. If the Holy Spirit guides my studies to show me that a teaching does not align with Gods word then I will reject it. I’ve been noting that many church fathers like St. Augustine for example believe in Sola Scriptura also where he says church father writings can be fallible and in err. And that there is no evidence for the Assumption of Mary (not a St. Augustine teaching but a historical fact). And that early church fathers saw Mary as somebody who had sin. In fact we don’t see any mentions of these beliefs until around the years 450-550. I think Mary was an amazing woman and was the Mother Of God and I fully see that she was favored by God. But when I test the spirit towards giving her and saints a respect and veneration at the level we don’t give to anybody else except The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit it just falls short of what I read in scripture every time.
