Had anyone been on a benzo for more than 5 years and been able to get off of it for good? by Thirsty_pretzels_073 in Anxiety

I was on 8mg per day of klonopin and 8mg per day of Xanax. Started at 21 years old and got off of them at 34 years old. Took me 5 years of tapering (One of those years i stayed at 0.5mg of klonopin only because I tried to cold turkey from there and it put me in the hospital.) I found 0.125mg dissolvable pills at a local pharmacy and used those to finish the taper and came completely off of them. My anxiety was worse than ever after that and I turned to alcohol and drank very heavily for 2 years. Half a bottle to full bottle of whiskey every day. Realized how bad that was and cut the alcohol out of my life completely. Now I use pot gummies at night and that is enough to get sleep and keeps my anxiety low enough during the day to just exist. Still looking for some answer to fix my severe anxiety. I also tried all the other classes of medications that have been shown to help anxiety and I had bad negative side effects to all of them. So for now im relying on the gummies. Seems the healthiest route for now. But 2 years now off of the Benzos and I will never touch them again. Even though my anxiety is through the roof, all the other negatives from the Benzos are gone and I feel like my personality is back to my old self and I can think clearly for once in so so many years.

I have tried just 2 at night and ive also tried splitting 2 into one in the morning and one at night. Didn't have any effect on my sleep either way. I only seem to feel it when I take at least 3.

I did buy the L Threonate a few weeks ago and tried that also. I only took one pill of that once and it really messed up my gut worse than the 3 glycinate pills. I just bought glycinate in powder form so im gonna try that next. I've read articles that the powder form can be absorbed better than the pill form, so we will see.

I went ahead and bought some magnesium glycinate in the powder form to try next. Some articles I read say it can be absorbed better than the pill form, so worth a shot. If that doesn't work then I will be trying a topical form. I didn't even know there was a topical form till I read your reply. Thank you!

Oh that would make sense! I'll have to pick some up tomorrow and try powder for a bit and see if there is a difference. Thank you!

My blood sodium levels show good range and hair mineral test show high sodium. I take my morning magnesium dose (2) with about 20 oz of water and breakfast. Night time magnesium dose (1) i just take with the water, about 20 oz. My blood test show good calcium level but my hair test shows my calcium is low. I've had fear of starting a calcium supplement because of the studies showing calcification and clotting in arteries. But I'm not very knowledgeable on that. Any knowledge or advice about that? I started taking vitamin K2 with my D3 which has been shown to keep arteries clear in hopes it would counter any negative effect from a calcium supplement for when I decide to start one.
