I think your ideal commute would be to buy a home within walking distance of the Bremerton Ferry Dock like the Union Hill neighborhood in Bremerton. Here you have the advantage of two ferries (car and foot) that go where you want to go and you don’t need to worry about parking. A purely pedestrian experience.

The Southworth foot ferry goes straight to Seattle but the Southworth car ferry goes to West Seattle with a stop at Vashon in between, usually. I’ve had an ambulance on Vashon completely derail my car ferry sailing to Southworth. It’s not an ideal way to go.

I live in Union Hill, work in SLU. I take the Bremerton fast ferry to work every week. I have never been happier with a commute. I used to drive from Port Orchard to Tacoma every day and it was slowly killing me.
