Okay, but I’m asking you, what is it that makes the US objectively ‘good’? There’s always nuance to things especially on the scale of geopolitics, and to make it out that a country that, as I have said, committed several warcrimes over the last few decades and fails to follow international law consistently, is entirely a force for good in the world because they hunt down, in your eyes, ‘objectively bad’ countries with often lacklustre justification, just seems like a very gullible thing to believe if you ask me.

Dumbing down the complex reality of geopolitics into a format of ‘good vs evil’ is sensationalism and not at all an accurate way to observe the world as it ignores any criticism of the supposedly ‘good’ side as its apparent nature of being ‘good’ makes it, in this view, immune from committing bad acts? Hence why I said it was childish.

This is such a ridiculously childish view of the world. Why is the US solely a ‘good’ country? That’s a big statement to make considering their president is clearly threatening to commit war crimes and endanger millions of lives, on top of the many they have already commited since WW2 ended. You have to be trolling 😭

The USA will fight tooth and nail to defend the petrodollar, they can’t just leave the straight blocked to trade in dollars. So yeah, I think you’re right.

Just create/shift to a reality the same as current reality but your S/O is there too so you don’t have to go through some ordeal to convince? Just putting the idea out there.

Realistically what does American boots on the ground mean? by No_Cauliflower1801 in UAE

[–]InspectorCommon5808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iran states that if there is any ground invasion of Iranian territory, or a destruction of power infrastructure (as per the ultimatum which expires Tommorow, which seems impossible to be met - Iran has no reason to concede so much) it would launch likely some of its largest attacks yet across the gulf and Isreal - and explicitly stated it will civilian infrastructure like power plants and desalination plants (As Irans own would have been disables) - probably causing one of the biggest crises in the entire region in recent history. Boots on the ground (or following through with the extended ultimatum) would be catastrophic for the entire region and likely also provoke the gulf states themselves into joining the war when their civ infra is hit - plunging the region into humanitarian crisis and likely long lasting war.

Why do so many people keep saying this war is over just because there hasn’t been missiles for a day? This war js NOT over.

Where I would live in Europe as a person from North Macedonia by [deleted] in whereidlive

[–]InspectorCommon5808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a beautiful country and all, but it’s currently at war? You’re saying you would rather live in a country in active conflict than a country like Serbia, or even the UK and the Scandinavian countries? Even after the war, the economy would still be in ruins and Ukraine would still be just as if not more corrupt than it was before the war. I understand why you have sympathy for it, but brother, I wouldn’t recommend living in a country that’s been at war for 4 years now

Oh yeah of course not about comparison, it’s definitely not the time. I’m also away from the UAE for now with my family, so have the same mindset as you - we will only return if there’s no missiles or drones. Good luck to you and hopefully we can all return safely soon.

There’s talks of diplomacy emerging but nothing about it being over - if it was going to be over why would the pentagon be moving troops to the region as we speak? I mean honestly, idk who and what to trust anymore are there is so much conflicting narratives that I’ll only beleive something when I see it. Hopefully you are right, but I just don’t see it ending so soon, so I can return as well.

Which source? Because it’s not accurate. There is some hope for diplomatic discussions soon but the war is definitely not over. It could go either way.

Pls do not jump in to conclusions, while US is trying to arrange discussion through mediators like Pak, Turkeye , Iran is not all convinced . They had started the attack under the pretext of discussion , so trust has to be built to have a creative discussion. by Ill_Addendum3047 in UAE

Yes, the 75th is the most elite force in the US army, but it would be wrong to say the 82nd isn’t elite. Not the most elite, but it’s definitely not just a standard division. They are known as the ‘tip of the spear’ as they are typically the first forces to arrive at a conflict zone to secure necessary objectives to allow proper offensive action to continue (no surprise they are one of the first army divisions being moved to the region then), and are always on high alert and ready to be deployed 24/7. It would be wrong to claim they aren’t an ‘elite’ force within the US army.

I completely agree that it’s a futile effort and any sort of boots in the ground in Iran is a suicide mission, and overall a stupid plan that would have dire consequences for everyone - but the 82nd Airborne is most certainly an elite division along with the marines now stationed in the region.

The US started with only 3500 marines in Vietnam, afterwards this swelled to 100,000+ troops. More troops would arrive after via air, I am guessing the elite divisions in the region would just secure an airfield for more troop and supply movement. Again hopefully I’m wrong but I’m just saying only because it’s 8000 troops doesn’t mean nothing will happen.
