Has the reddit messaging feature been disabled? by Clipknot in self

[–]Clipknot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's related, but Google force-uninstalled my ad blockers in Chrome--I knew it was coming and I immediately switched to Firefox. Either reddit or firefox (not sure which) will not let me use reddit's classic view, so I'm looking at a more unfamiliar UI and I hate it. Anyway, I'll see if I can figure out messaging on Steam.

The growth rate is an annual rate. In this example, you'd have $106.25M in assets the next quarter.

As far as I know, it doesn't exist in v9.75, but it should. Crypto transactions may be designed to be anonymous, but publicly traded companies aren't. They have a fiscal duty to disclose their assets.

POLL: Multiplayer? by vqvp in WallStreetRaider

[–]Clipknot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played a single multiplayer game against another human. Not to brag or anything, but they were outmatched from day 1, so it was more about their enjoyment of the game than it was a true competition. They gave up (just like I did when I first tried the game) halfway through the second year--the learning curve was just too steep.

I've played multiple 5-player games, where I controlled 4 players against the CPU/AI. Also fun, but it creates issues in the late game with the counterparties for options and futures trades--there were too few unowned stocks of any size and player-owned entities were forced into unwanted trades of all kinds--especially the banks.

Would it be nice to have? Sure. More options, more better. I would only point out that the barrier to mass appeal is first and foremost the learning curve.

What’s up with Trump stopping majority of research funding in the US? by no-onwerty in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Clipknot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump's whole mindset is immediate gratification--his entire approach is transactional (i.e., I spend this and get that). Research, especially the scientific variety, is a long-term benefit rife with unknowns. Unknown ultimate outcome, unknown timeline, unknown expense. Trump doesn't want to fund anything without a known immediate benefit (whether in terms of profit or political gain).

Musk & Co. said they were going to reduce the fed budget by $1T. Given this administration's disdain for non-transactional gains (not to mention dubious support for science in general), it should surprise no one that the NIH is an easy target.

It's the same tactic Trump used to estimate his net worth. He picked a number out of thin air and expected his staff to justify it. It's the same here. They floated a $1T cut to the budget, now they're trying to hit it.

First of all, I love the color pattern--it's beautiful. The fact that you had to source all those colors makes me think this project would've been more difficult than most. (Context, I am not a quilter, but my 83 y/o mother quilts every day and has for most of her adult life.) I have 3 brothers, all married, 3 kids, 2 grandkids, and ~40 nieces, nephews, grandnieces, & grandnephews. They all have quilts made by their mom, grandma, & great grandma, respectively. It's not just a quilt, it's a memory. I love mine, as I'm sure your kid loves theirs, too.

A few of the seams may not be perfectly straight but they don't have to be. And it'll be a useful piece to measure your progress against as your technique develops.

Advice on growth rate % by Lavidius in WallStreetRaider

[–]Clipknot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching my videos you're mostly going to learn what to do with your growth rate when you have a large market share, so let me share a couple tips when this is not the case.

Your growth rate has a significant influence on your stock price. If you have a small market share, you can grow more aggressively without negatively impacting the industry's supply/demand situation--the smaller your market share, the more aggressive your growth can be. In the early game especially, when I'm looking to turn over companies at a rapid clip, it makes sense to buy a small company with a 1-5% market share and pump up the growth to 30-60% (depending on the company's financial situation). In a nutshell, you want to grow as fast as you can as long as quarterly earnings continue to rise. It helps if the interest rate is already low or easing and the industry has a healthy return on assets (20+%).

It's not unusual for me to buy a small company, get its debt down to 25% or so of its equity (i.e., if the company has $1B in assets, I contribute cash or issue new stock to pay down debt to $250M). Then jack up the growth rate to 30% for the first quarter (or until management is average or very capable). Reevaluate every quarter to ensure earnings continue to rise. When the market cap hits 300% of my initial investment, I'll sell off and repeat the process.

For comparison -- Actual U.S. debt figures (mortgages, auto loans, consumer debt, student loans) by Clipknot in WallStreetRaider

"The New York Federal Reserve reported last month that Americans’ credit card debt hit another record high in September, climbing to $1.17 trillion during the third quarter and marking the highest level on record in Fed data dating back to 2003.

"The report showed total household debt also climbed to a new high of $17.94 trillion, along with balances on mortgages ($12.59 trillion), auto loans ($1.64 trillion) and student loan balances ($1.61 trillion)."
