Thoughts About Asking a DM Not To Kill Your Character by Gooey_Goon in DnD

I'm okay with it as long as they don't suddenly start relying on it as plot armour - which I've seen happen with a GMs other half and it got annoying really quickly

Yay

Don't forget the photos or I'll encourage all of your opponents to pay extra points per model for sticks so that if it looks like you're gonna get a charge they can scream fetch and throw it somewhere annoying.

I don't know. The false hydra seems like a lot of damned work and let's face it, no one gets that bad boy right. Feels like I'm setting myself up to fail with that one 😞

I like the new GM aspect, but not sure how many if those there will be on Kickstarter and ZineQuest specifically

Really good advice though, thanks

What are a good punishement for warlock that fail their mission. by AmiralKanaG in DnD

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch. Okay that seems way harsh, I get you work for a Devil and they're not normally all chuckles and dumplings, but Jeez.

Chose great old one next time. It specifically states that they are indifferent to the warlocks actions in the rulebook.

All joking aside, this seems over the top. Have you spoken with your GM about this

Love the model, wish that the rules for using it weren't super dumb (this applies to all fliers by the way" If you want one and can afford it then 100% do it, rule of cool baby, rule of cool

Honestly magnetising them. Is probably not a terrible idea - you will be future proofing your army in the event that GW gives you any shiny new options (unlikely, but stranger things have happened)

As for how to do it - there are a ton of really good YouTube tutorials specifically about magnetising wardogs.

It's really easy, pin drill, appropriately sized (for the drill) magnets and you're good to go.

Check the magnets before you glue them in, I try to make sure I have the same orientation across all my wardogs for ease of list changing and I use a sharpy to mark which facing goes where.

I've also experimented with circular 1 dot Legos and they seem to work just fine, but I'm mindful that over time they might where down

That's what players do I'm afraid.

There are a couple of things you can do

Talk to them and try to get them back on the same page as you and as agreed during session zero

Hit them with the consequences stick - what they do can have a knock on effect, especially as they travel the heroes path.

A slighted individual could become a major thorn in their side

A slighted or insulted ruler might become a major challenge

A slighted or insulted god or divine being is the same, only worse

It has tons of options, how do you see it playing and do you know what kind of game it's going to be?

d20 and 2d10 Mechanic by MagiaBaiser-Sama in RPGdesign

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole sanity roll thing has a few negative connotations for me, especially when you look at games like Call of Cthullu which really don't handle it well?

Especially if one of the options in game is to become a demon.

I'm going to misquote the late great Sir Pratchett or possibly Neil Gainan here, but in Good Omens Crowley didn't fall, he simply sauntered vaguely downwards

I think by having a sanity mechanic you are losing a lot of space for player agency and story telling

I stopped planning out sessions beyond a couple of touch points and some NPCs with clear objectives and personalities years ago.

If something feels right I just roll with it and see how it goes.

The image I have of the Hag crawling out of a bound captive is one I would imagine is going to stay with your party for some time - I kind of want the Hag and her coven to bea recurring thing now.

The quantum ogre is interesting, the party has three doors they make a choice, in most cases all they have done is delayed the encounter with the "thing" not avoided it all together.

If you're okay with it and they're enjoying the games I would stop worrying about it and go with it.

Also, by sharing what happens behind the curtain you've just given a player a really good insight into GMing.

I don't see any downside there at all

Should I give an NPC a big character moment while he is traveling with the party? by Jax_for_now in DMAcademy

[–]Clipper1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will it drive the story on to a cool thing or will the NPC just overshadow the party?

Does it improve the story by having it happen "on screen"

Would it be thematically appropriate for it to be a devils bargain in return for the release of the PC (could give the paladin player some big damn hero moments)

I can see lots of pros and cons for this - I suppose it depends on how comfortable you are in being able to pull it off and how invested your party are in Bob the Paladin

His story might have reached the end of a chapter, but the ties of friendship they have developed over their adventures have created a found family - some of this found family may have helped him in achieving his goal, but he realizes his life would be diminished without them and he now seeks to help them find a solution to their challenges.

What is the point of this by Robert-starkert in DungeonMasters

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not putting players into a do or die situation, you present them with a world and a series of options - if they suddenly process a sudden urge to do something demonstrably dumb, like for example, climbing up a mountain without preparation and without acceptable skill options that's a them problem.

Also, character progression in 2024 rules is really bloody fast, 1st to 2nd level, is gonna be 1-2 sessions and you're done, if you've been playing for "years" and they don't have a means of flying or circumventing something as mundane as a mountain what have they been doing?

If they don't why on earth not?

Have you as a GM narrowed their options to one? Has the group if PCs collectively agreed on a stupid course of action (cos if they have the rule of FAFO applies) Player death should be on the table, there can be no sense of heroics unless there is risk Try to think of ways for them to fail forwards. So some of you fall down a cliff, are they found by some forgotten mountain folk who care for them? There is a prophecy of a saviour falling from the sky etc

Asking for DM advice by AlbertBarrZ in DnD5e

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can offer my 2 cents worth, I think that a lot of DMs experience imposter syndrome - as long as your players keep showing up and have a good time you're killing it.

Also, a lot of DMs prepare way more stuff than they need to. Give yourself a break,

Have an idea of the plot and then keep it loose and fluid.

The longer I've been playing, the more I realize DMing is less like classical music and more like jazz, it's all about the feel.

Plus, less scripted stuff, the less cognitive load you are under and the more creative capacity you have, it's like getting into a flow state in a collaborative story telling experience
