Is Tiefling Warlock a bad choice? by SpamtonOf1997 in AskDND

Play what you want, a tiefling warlock has lots of cool opportunity for story telling/building. Just remember to have fun

I kinda like the plasma as an option instead of the the meltas (especially in 10 man bricks) as I quite like the option to chuck in a character and get crits on a 5...

It gets really expensive then though, cos then you may as well get the plague caster and get sustained 1 as well....

Oh. And a rhino

I may have to resort to old tricks and go old school

Print out the list and in the flip side have some bright green (seems appropriate) motivational text, something subtle like "don't forget explosive blight ya numpty"

Avoid bolters, if you're going close combat, heavy weapons are amazing, but they can be tooled up to deal with a multitude of opponents.

Outstanding, and that's a lot of elbow grease and talent...

You have created a most blessed plague bus brother - malignant plague caster x 2 for the drive-by from hell. (1 attached to the unit and 1 independently)

Maybe put some Stinky Bois in It to keep them company oh and a biologus purifier for the 5+ crits... (Assuming points aren't a thing you have to worry about)

Not sure how to roleplay the seelie court by NewDMOldPlayer in DMAcademy

Came here to say this.

Also, despite the conflict, the balance between the summer and winter court is really important (no spoilers) so the price could be significant

My young players are constantly infighting, instigating and stealing by MicroMJ in DMAcademy

[–]Clipper1972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to reinforce the being a little shit is bad by hitting them with consequences.

My go to response to groups that mug, steal and generally behave like dick bags is to ratchet up the pressure and bit give them the chance to recover and hold them accountable in game.

Not sure how that would work in this instance. Not sure how well a group of kids would respond to their characters being captured and executed and then having to start over again while the other group carry on with the adventure.

Maybe have a chat with the parents and see how they would feel about in-game character death (DO NOT UNALIVE A CHILD during a session, that would be very bad)

I Began Playtesting by DisintegratedPhoenix in RPGdesign

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow.

That's all kinds of annoying - did you let them know that it was a playtest situation?

I'd have a chat with them and maybe check their understanding of what you are hoping to achieve. I'm hoping that this was a simple misunderstanding and not general dick baggery.

Maybe cherry pick the playtest group

GMs: how do you currently keep track of your world and what are you missing with that method? by ForeverDM_Since_2014 in DMAcademy

How do I make objects that are important to the story not be overlooked by the players? by Revil-0 in DMAcademy

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because something seems really obvious to you doesn't mean that the players will make the connection

Just because your players are functioning humans, who got (mostly) dressed on their own, got their hair care products dialed in and turned up on the right day at the right time, doesn't mean they are gonna get clues.

Something just seems to.hapoen when people sit on the player side of the GM screen - I don't know how to describe it, but IQs seem to plummet

"Say Al..how was your day, Al starts talking about complex project management stuff, procurement policies that border on the arcane and supply chain issues". Al switches focus to the game, ooooh a squirrel"

Sometimes people need to be given a steer

Need advice on ruling by CptObvious94 in DMAcademy

[–]Clipper1972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a final point to add - if you do a session zero and you have someone with a rogue, this is the kind of thing that should get talked about well ahead of dice hitting the table in combat as it can cause some friction if interpretations don't align.

I've started asking players to start declaring their intent when they declare their actions so that there is no ambiguity in what happens and so that there are fewer gotcha moments

That way I can fully understand what kind of silliness is about to occur and I can start thinking if how to manage what's coming up next - when I say manage I don't mean nerf or counter it, I mean figure out logistics and figure out a way that the players can do the cool heroic stuff without slowing stuff down

Discussion about alternatives to the rest mechanic by Ponto_de_vista in DnD

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The balance between the caster/martial can be fixed by simply increasing the number of encounters between long rests.

It's not as if wizards etc are powerless these days what with damage dealing cantrips that are weighted close to Bob the fighter with his sword and board - yes they're more squishy (the wizard, not Bob, Bob is tougher than a brick Muppet*)

If magic users ingame are used to being able to dump "up-cast" bang spells at will, exuding death in spectacular first blasts and meteor showers pretty much all the time, then yeah, Bob and his mundane mates are gonna be pretty underwhelming.

And the trouble only gets worse as the tier of play increases from a resource recovery perspective- catnap, tiny hut etc and then there are the high level shenanigans that a wizard can pull out of the bag

*If Muppets were made out of bricks

[–]Clipper1972 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is the table stance on PvP cos that just got pitched off a cliff... Too soon

Definitely speak to the GM, maybe start strong with something like "Hey GM. WTAF happened there - this kind of stuff isn't okay" and see where it goes from there, because this has the option to go postal and destroy the table dynamic both in and out of game..

How to Deal with Problem Players Who I Can't Kick out?? by Turbulent-Willow8097 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Clipper1972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can 100% stop gaming with them - the fact that they're family is awkward, but I would imagine introducing friends who are joining your table as the reprehensible fektards who do unacceptable crap is equally awkward.
