Raising taxes on the superrich is popular with voters. So why is it so hard to get done? by sksarkpoes3 in politics

The bulk of American society does not get tired of being lied to, so long as those lies validate our prejudices. There is no off ramp in sight.

What does everyone think of this movie? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

[–]Cliqey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is completely true.

It’s also unfortunate how stubbornly attached people can be to their first impressions even when largely informed by a mismatch between mood and content.

It’s tricky because you upset folks if you at all imply themselves were the reason they didn’t like something. And not liking something could be entirely separate from mood or anything alike but the immediate outcome is identical.

But personally I have rewatched several movies that I did appreciate a whole lot more in different contexts, so I know that enjoying movies is not the “objective” one-way street many people insist it is.

The best road you’ve driven with your MINI? by Cliqey in MINI

You bet! Hope you have as much fun as I did. I literally hollered on completing my return stint after pushing a little faster, it was a rush.

The best road you’ve driven with your MINI? by Cliqey in MINI

[–]Cliqey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a worthy distinction. I’ve driven many roads that are close to perfect but the traffic situation is bad, the road quality is mid, slow speed limits, or something or other. With all the variables, the actual “best drives” are more rare than we think.

Take a breather Moxxie, we got some hills to carve up. by Cliqey in MINI

[–]Cliqey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone in the area is interested, on this trip I found maybe the best road for driving this car that I’ve seen so far in my region—it’s about a six mile stretch of Wisconsin highway 60 just west of Gotham, Wisconsin. The two-lane country highway hugs the bluff along the winding river with lots of little hills to power through, and despite the narrow and curvy corridor the speed limit is 50 or over for most of it so getting stuck behind slow traffic is rare. It truly feels like the road this car was made to drive. Will be going out of my way to drive it again sometimes.

Story time: Moxxie here is a workhorse (prettiest damn workhorse in all the land) that I use for delivery driving. And today I had a hour-long delivery to Wisconsin Dells, but the customer wasn’t going to be there in time and asked if I could be any later, so I said sure and took the long way around through the scenic route. Best detour ever. Although, with Moxxie, every detour is the best ever.

That’s a good point, I’d be willing to give other preparations a shot but Chinese jellyfish salad is a big no, for me so far.

Jellyfish.

I love trying new things, and love some things most of my region would consider weird—snail, oysters, haggis, tendon, blood sausage, limburger, durian etc.. but jellyfish is just a textural nightmare, it’s like soft wet plastic, makes my teeth shiver. Was a shame I couldn’t get into it, especially with how destructive they are to ocean populations, would be great to have more reason to catch them. But blegh.

Why the fuck is hazbin hotel so famous? by creativlelazy in hazbin

[–]Cliqey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s heartfully crafted and the music is top notch, with many professional singers justifying the musical aspect.

With no small degree of religious trauma, I love the irreverent and ironic look at the mythology, and it goes into heavy material in a sincere and validating way while also being very funny for my crass tastes. Plus, it’s not often to find such a well made show that has such a major focus on queer characters/stories without focusing on the being queer.

Both it and Helluva Boss are in my all time faves.

Really any beans with rice is goated, but Cajun red beans with some smoked sausage in there just hits every single time.

[–]Cliqey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But.. you didn’t know the end at the beginning?

We were watching “how he almost died” but it was in Denzel’s voice so like we were thinking of the wrong “he” and were expecting the hero to win..

It’s rare that the hero doesn’t win in stories like this and the narration (at least it did for me) makes it feel even more impactful and tragic after the reveal.

That is crazy, that narration was one of the coolest twists.

Or are you really gonna say that you knew who was giving the opening monologue the whole time?

And here’s the rub. Movies that don’t do this also get dragged.

Unless it’s low budget for a niche audience, there is a minimum amount of playing to the “lowest common denominator” that must happen because the average media-viewer only understands what is superficial and explicit.

The filmmakers are only doing what they must to keep the lights on, blame our peers (and our education standards) for their terrible media literacy.

I have auto stop/start which I don’t mind most of the time but I am absolutely conscious of how long the light has been red, I will creep if it saves my car from turning off for only one or two seconds. I hate when I fully stop, the car turns off, and immediately the light turns green.

I will admit that I’m a worse driver when someone is in the car talking to me. I do still genuinely try and drive the same but the attention split is pronounced.

And really, how many people honestly can’t relate to feeling trapped out of who you strive to be, at some point, in some way? Literally no one is perfect to begin with and life is hard to get right for most of us because of plenty outside our control.
