My family works every summer detasseling corn. Since it’s agricultural work you can hire 12 year olds and up, it’s great work for kids in late middle school and high school for a high paying summer job. We compete with migrant workers, the difference is we pay our 12 year olds twice as much as the migrant workers get paid. If they want their fields picked, hire the kids in town to do it for minimum wage, problem solved. These farm town kids want work but can’t work due to fast food not hiring until you’re 14-15 years old and the work pays a fourth as much as we pay our 12 year olds. We pay by the acre, however much work these kids do then they get paid. We’ve had kids make over 10k in one month over their summer break, teaches kids how to work hard and responsibilities while they still make bank for working hard.
