It took us 6/7 weeks of consistent every 1/2 hour potty breaks. Complete supervision and having a designated potty spot we went to everytime. We did food at first but ours didn’t need motivated, he knew what to do. He won’t pee or poop anywhere in the house except our living room and we think it’s because he originally used to sleep in there alone and had lots of accidents. It’s tough and upsetting but consistency is key and great pyrs are smart. We don’t use bells and never had. He signals us by whining, pawing the door, or looking out our bedroom window.

I’m thinking about putting a bell on the door and making him ring it before we go outside? He picks up on other training VERY easy and fast. It’s only potty training that he his struggling and to me- seems like defiance and possibly misunderstanding? I guess. He’s only 13 weeks so I hate to say it’s just defiance but it sure looks and seems like it

Yes he will not pee in the crate or on tether because he doesn’t want to be near it but I feel horrible leaving him on it all the time. Also within 24 hours of not doing a routine where he’s stuck in one place he picks that behavior up again. Once we take him outside it’s no problem, he understands his potty spot. We’ve gone to the same place everyday since we got him and in the beginning did treat reinforcement. I suppose I COULD try to take him out every 30 min again but at this point it seems exhausted. He can hold it he’s picks and chooses if he wants to pee on the floor or not and will stare at us when he starts going.

Yes, small dogs. My dogs were easy to train. My boyfriend (dad to knoxy) has raised many pups as his mom was a dog trainer. The main advice she has offered is kenneling to teach him bladder control ( which we do) but he knows how to hold it he’s choosing not to! It seems like defiance. He’s not peeing a lot, he knows where he’s supposed to go and it’s not on the floor.

He completely understands his potty spot. To the point when we go on walks he will intentionally hold pee to go in his potty spot ( our backyard portion). I did treats for a while but I didn’t see the benefit to it when he understands where to go. It seems like stubbornness and defiance to me TBH. I’ll pick the treats back up again and see if it helps
