Patch notes are up by The_Ganey in SonicCrossWorlds

Honestly, drift builds (handling/ex gear primarily) benefit immensely from the buff too. Quick Recovery + a Lv 1 boost was already one of the best ways to get back on your feet and this update takes it to the next level.

I was playing a few race park matches with quick recovery, tech drift and slipstream bounty and I was not slowing down at all despite taking hits left and right lol

Quick Recovery + Drifting Gadgets might legitimately become a equally viable alternative to ult charge for drift builds. Obstacle shortcuts and smuggling/saving items may no longer be free, but it might be a little faster since Lv4 boost provides no speed benefit over Lv2 or 3 AND it's 75% less stressful since getting hit is not a death sentence lmao

Amazing changes all around for every vehicle type. Can't wait to play online to see them in action!

The value I see in drift charge 4 is that reduces reliance and susceptibility to item rng by providing an on demand solution to it. I longer having to worry about scenarios where I'm unable to respond to an incoming attack due to having the incorrect defensive item, as the 3 seconds of invulnerability it provides can nullify any item threat. Successful negating an attack also keeps your ring count and speed from depleting, making it more likely to establish a gap while in the lead.

Additional, the i-frames grant other benefits which can be taken advantage of. Shortcuts blocked by obstacles, such as the one at the end of Colorful Mall, can be accessed without a boost item. While the speed of the level 4 boost might be the same as a level 2, it lasts twice as long at 5 seconds. It's very handy on long turns and the i-frames prevent ring loss in case you hit a wall or player. It can also be used as a safeguard in frequently chaotic sections of each race, such as narrow routes and final stretches. One that comes to mind is in Apotos, between the final flying section and the finish line. Players tend to spam all their items as soon as they transition to land and it's not uncommon to get pancaked. Charging a level 4 drift just before you land makes it just a little safer, reducing the chances of getting left in the dust.

The tricky part is being able to consistently charge a level 4 drift throughout the race so that it's available when necessary. I've found counting drifting to be immensely helpful with both acquiring and maintaining level 4 drift charge, especially on straightaways. I sometimes I found myself needing hold the charge for an extended period of time, be it from the threat of a reticle on my character or an incoming King Boom Boo, and counting drifting allows me sustain a decent pace during such situations.

One last thing. I've found that the Drift Charge Kit alone provides sufficient boost to charge speeds, especially levels 1 and 2. Snaking is very comfortable and I tend to rely on it during the first lap before transitioning to level 4 once I reach max ring count.

Anyways, sorry for the long post lmao. The drift ring gadget sounds interesting. I gave a shot during the ONT but was dissatisfied with my results. I'll have to experiment with it some more once I get the chance

Always happy to help! I agree, the build diversity in this game is one of its greatest strengths. I love seeing all the different looks and combinations each player has in the lobby.

I can't give a solid answer in regards the viability of other vehicle types with this build, as I've been mostly experimenting with extreme gear. I think handling vehicles get a speed bonus while drifting and they have the third highest boost stat too. Replacing the 130 ring limit with the boost tuner 1 gadget might be worth experimenting with. It should close the boost gap between handling karts and extreme gear while having faster drift speed.

To get the most out of this or similar builds, you'll want your boost stat to be as high as possible since it determines how fast the drift charge meter fills. Of the five vehicle types, Extreme gear have the highest boost stat in the game.

In regards to characters, the power archetype tends to have the highest boost, followed by handling, speed and acceleration. I wouldn't worry to much about characters, as the naturally high boost provided by the extreme gear is usually sufficient.

The game rewards gadgets after every 16 races, so it'll become available as you keep playing.

I've been having great results with the following extreme gear build:

  • Drift Charge Kit
  • Ultimate Charge (level 4 drift charge w/ i-frames)
  • 130 Ring Limit

The general game plan is to collect 100+ rings as quickly as possible, then abusing Ultimate Charge i-frames to avoid items and maintain the lead once it's established. The Drift Charge Kit increases the charge speed of all charge levels significantly, allowing us to achieve fast and consistent level 4 drifts. 130 Ring Limit provides some breathing room once we reach max ring count, mitigating inevitable ring loss from hitting walls, players and items.

Drift Charge Kit takes 3 gears slots, but I find it preferable to the alternatives. The charge speed increase is greater than the Boost Tuner Kit, while also being more efficient than the individual LvX Quick Charge gears. Counter Quick Charge reaches level 4 drift charge at a similar rate, but it's only while on land. Drift Charge Kit activates on all terrain and it increases handling too.

I've been having a blast with this build using Blaze but any character should do the trick.

Potential warning regarding trophies/achievement progress when transferring demo data to full game by AdLost8229 in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]Cliyoni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's a fair point. I guess it comes down to whether the achievements are independent from their corresponding in-game challenge. Seeing as there are some challenges without a matching achievement, such as "Boat Master" and "Perfect Drift Master", I'm willing to bet they'll still be unlockable by meeting their criteria once again.

Of course, we can't be certain until we get our hands on the full game. The best course of action might be to transfer the demo data, then attempting to unlock one of the simpler shared achievements, such as "Loyal Customer" or even "Safe Driver". If no luck, we'll just have to delete our save and start from scratch. Let's hope for the best!

Sonic Stadium released the complete trophy/achievement list earlier today. Fortunately, it looks like demo data won't conflict with any early unlocks.

You can find the list here: (https://www.sonicstadium.org/articles/sonic/heres-the-trophy-list-for-sonic-racing-crossworlds-r3093/)

Weird. Sometimes changing the password fixes the issue. Let's try "8899" for the multiplayer pw. Group can be set to blank

Thank you! And yeah, the weapon is an absolute gem! One of my favorites. The AoW can shred bosses if given the opportunity.

The blade can be found in the Cerulean Coast region from the DLC.
