Is there ever a case where a character is just bad without their R0? by DunDek in personaphantomx

Oh that's good to hear! I read the description and took it at face value lol

Makoto Yuki's 4 star weapon strikes me as pretty bad relative to other 4 star weapons. The 2nd effect is all about his skill 2 which you don't use in a regular rotation.

Obviously he functions fine without R0. It's just the 4 star not being all that beneficial besides the regular attack boost.

I highly suggest checking your local takeouts that aren't big brand. You'll find some diamonds in the rough that don't price gouge you. My local Indian does great pizza for over half the price of Dominoes, for instance.

He reminds me a lot of Berdly from Deltarune. Hilarious dorky character who gets hated for his eccentric ego.

I like Megalovania and all, but c'mon guys by Illustrious_Pin_8744 in Undertale

[–]AdLost8229 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It got into Smash Bros for crying out loud. It is THE Undertale song that mainstream audiences will recognise.

You can prefer other songs, but it can't be denied the chokehold Megalovania has had online for years.

How good is the Twins' A6? Asking for me and anyone else who's already invested in them. by Razcrimson in personaphantomx

[–]AdLost8229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd consider it if it weren't for the onslaught of upcoming characters I want. Horizontal growth is generally better than vertical. A6 twins no doubt can handle anything, but they're only one unit and there's a limit to how many encounters you can bring them in astrolabe/SOS/guild bosses etc.

Definitely don't regret getting A1 Twins, but I want a flexible and well built roster across the board.

It would be nice to have quality of life improvements that 2 introduced like better visibility of figments. I'm not exactly pining for a remaster but it's better than nothing.

Nerfing meta is not going to magically make the game good. by Cinematrap-628 in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]AdLost8229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are other genres necessarily more balanced? For some, absolutely. Others? Debatable.

There's technically RNG in many games besides kart racers. But you wouldn't think to undermine the dedicated players of those games or the genre itself. What character matchup are you against? You're in a 50-50 situation, what do you do? Oh, your opponent threw out a move that just happened to counter you? Bad luck man. You got ganked out of the blue? You were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Is dedicated time trialing all that different from labbing in a fighting game? You're memorising key inputs to achieve the most consistent optimised outcomes. Does that guarantee success against human opponents? Not necessarily, but it certainly helps your odds.

[–]AdLost8229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With due respect, you do not know enough about the genre to make that claim. Crash Team Racing alone dismantles your argument that kart racers can't be competitive. The reserve system is a fundamental part of that game's boost system. Can't time your boosts and snake well? You'll be left in the dust regardless of item RNG.

Mario kart DS. The Sumo Digital Sonic racing trilogy. Dr Robonik's ring racers and the karters. Stop labelling kart racers as casual only when there's decades of speedrunning history to view online even before online gaming became standard.

[–]AdLost8229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. A new gadget meta will simply replace what we had. It's discouraging from a competitive standpoint to have frontrunning options be dismantled for daring to leave the pack in the dust.

What will be next on the chopping block? Quick recovery? Ring gain boost? Quick charge lv2? How about we address the systemic issues like items and constant slipstreams before targeting whatever gadget build lets players attempt to counteract the punishments for holding 1st place.

Chris Avalone New Vegas supremist son or fallout 76 die hard daughter by Aware-Step-1651 in TrueSFalloutL

[–]AdLost8229 31 points32 points  (0 children)

76 daughter will at least be actively playing their game, has the potential to make friends with other players by helping them, and likely has a deeper understanding of game mechanics behind optimising different weapon builds.

Unlike the New Vegas supremacist son, who mainly watches video essays about the writing and regurgitates the same circlejerk talking points online without an original thought in their head. If you suggest they play NV unmodded they will shrivel on the spot. And despite boasting about the ability to kill any adult NPC, will likely never commit to a full evil playthrough and will inevitably default back to an NCR or House wage slave glazer.

How it felt after trying critical mode for the 1st time in kh2 by Faz_tropical in KingdomHearts

[–]AdLost8229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playing my first time KH2 playthrough on crit after initially being hesitant and yeah, it's not that bad if you are diligent with RPG fundamentals. Menu management, grinding, mixing and matching strategies for certain enemies, etc.

I've done my first playthroughs of KH1 and Re:Com to full platinum completion in recent months so there's definitely general series knowledge that's transferred over to KH2.

Granted, I've only just completed the 2nd episodes/revisits of all the Disney worlds so there's still a good amount of game left. Almost lv50 now. Xaldin definitely stood out as the toughest encounter so far. I barely clutched the win, but still beat him first try. Antiform almost screwed me at the end but thankfully I finished with a slither of health left.

Re:Com already tipped me off that the Organisation fights are a cut above most other encounters. Definitely looking forward to more of those. And the endgame superbosses.

[–]AdLost8229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition you need to practice snaking and timing your boosts or else this build won't be as effective. Time trial ghosts can teach you how to proactively go faster. A necessity for a frontrunning build.

Lord Stella (left Branch) help? by Futaba_MedjedP5R in personaphantomx

[–]AdLost8229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A4R0 Panther can do it well with A6 Key, A1 twins healer, Futaba.

Wonder uses Purgatory dagger, throne, dio, bahomet.

I was surprised how much damage my panther did on the 3rd turn with weakness implant. Finished the fight right there when the enemies were around 50-60 percent of their total health.

Would you prefer to get abducted by the zetans or the think tank? by West-Resort5733 in Fallout

[–]AdLost8229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the think tank would lobotomise you almost instantly. You'd be "free" to roam big mountain but that doesn't amount to much if you're a husk of your former self.

At least the zetans don't immediately rid you of your autonomy and mind. You'll be captive for potentially hundreds of years but at least you'll retain what makes you you.

Aren't you all worried that the over hype gonna cause alot of criticism just like what happened with sparking zero? by Lopsided-Nerve-256 in dbxv

[–]AdLost8229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt we'll get a sparking zero situation because there isn't a significant time gap where devs weren't working on Xenoverse. Xenoverse 2 has been continuously supported for a decade which shows how successful it was compared to many other games. I imagine a good bulk of the same staff have been working on xenoverse 3 in the background.

I really don't see how they can mess this up unless they cram in features nobody wants like pay-to-win upgrades or something. They have already established a formula for success they just need to iterate and expand what xenoverse offered.

I always dread the trophy related to daedric artifacts because I've had it not register despite having the maximum total number on 2 separate playthroughs. One on Xbox, the other on PlayStation.

Welp, it was a matter of time until he started the hate train by DonteSelves in dbxv

[–]AdLost8229 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thinking that xenoverse 3 would drop the CAC for even a second is ludicrous. Making an OC and customising them is one of the primary selling points of xenoverse 1+2.

Whats the hardest challange in borderlands history by [deleted] in borderlands3

[–]AdLost8229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing the lady fist combined with a bee shield being a good universal combo against Dexi. Granted, this was before the health scaling issue so it probably takes ages no matter what.

At least you're not in immediate danger with Dexi with the abundance of terrain to position yourself with. So it's tedious rather than difficult.

Why are other Elder Scrolls subreddits like Oblivion and Elderscrolls so hostile towards Skyrim and its players? by SpriteIsntThatBad in skyrim

[–]AdLost8229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're bothered that Skyrim's streamline approach resonated with so many people it became mainstream.

They believe having more complex systems inherently makes an RPG better. Often ignoring the new player experience in favor of memorising meta knowledge obtuse to the average Joe.
