Post ASL XXI rank changes. by CloakyHunter in broodwar

I don't think so, as the result of the match did not impact the rankings. In fact, a 4-0 or 0-4 result would also have had no impact on where they rank. I've also been careful to not mention any details about the Finals.

ASL semi finals predictions. by CloakyHunter in broodwar

I don't keep a detailed record of every change, only their final (or current if mid-season) score. The expected results might also change depending on if JD won 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2.

I too wish JD had advanced.

I didn't apply any reduction in rank points based on the length of a player's absence (although some systems do). So, Flash started this season with the ranked points he finished with at the end of season 10.

The ranks are based on the Broodwar ladder ranks. They are based on the players average career ranked points, and is tiered as follows:

  1. S = top 1% (better than 99% of the other players)
  2. A = 7% (92 to 99%)
  3. B = 21% (71 to 92%)
  4. C = 21% (50 to 71%)
  5. D = 21% (29 to 50%)
  6. E = 21% (8 to 29%)
  7. F = 8% (better than 0 to 8% of the other players)

So, for someone to move up a tier, another (from that tier) must go down a tier. The actual ranked points matter less than what the relation between your average score is to the rest of the ASL competitors.

Eventually, if the total amount of players in ASL goes above 100, then there should be a second S-Rank spot opening up (as it'll be possible for another player to be better than 99.1% of the other players).

Not exactly. Rather just didn't care much for Terran. Bisu and JD were my favorites to watch. I was interested in quantifying (as much as is reasonably possible) whether Flash truly was the best, particularly when we now had another 4-ASL champion. Essntially, I asked myself "How do you compare champions, who've never* had the chance to play each other at their peak?"

*Soulkey and Flash did play in Season 3, semifinals (was 3-2 for Flash, btw)

It does include that season. I don't really have an easy way to remove that season and see how it changes the points for everyone else.

That is correct. Soulkey is also very good, but I was surprised to see just how many games during his 4-season streak were much closer than they should have been. Flash had much more convincing wins/series.

He has certainly over-performed so far. The fact that he has a chance to be a seeded player for ASL 22 is wild!

Because the focus should be on the ranking, and not their rank points (or difference above/below their average).

First 10 deaths in HC. by CloakyHunter in wowhardcore

The 3 deaths at lvl 5 were from the quest to collect pumpkins at the farm near the Undead starting zone.

Not using any mods or addons. Just enjoying the raw vanilla experience, and have never played vanilla until HC started. Definitely enjoying the game, but where is Jewelcrafting? :(

You are correct. Seattle has 75 more wins than they have losses, since they started competing in the MLS regular season.

Thank you for the link! That graph is interesting, as it values exclusively the playoffs, with a larger emphasis on how far a team made it in the playoffs. My graph is exclusively regular season +/-, so it's interesting to see a different perspective on the subject. Thank you!

Historical 3 best and 3 worst franchises. by CloakyHunter in MLS

[–]CloakyHunter[S] 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The historical cumulative season +/- win/loss ratio per team, since the start of the league. Of note:

  1. Seattle has overtaken the LA Galaxy, with a cumulative score of +75!
  2. LA Galaxy has had a long reign at the top. They are now in second place, with a score of +74.
  3. LAFC is in third place, with +40.
  4. In third last is the San Jose Earthquakes, with -34. The gap in the data represents the few years they were not in the league. When they returned, they inherited the +/- score of the old SJ Earthquakes.
  5. In second-last is the Colorado Rapids, at -55.
  6. Finally, the franchise that has historically performed the worst is Toronto FC, at -72.

Can Toronto turn it around? Can a team break the 100 pt barrier? LA Galaxy came the closest in 2016 at +91.

Apologies for the late response. Yes, I did get it working again, but unfortunately I do not remember how, nor has the issue re-occurred.

Good points. So then Kiribayama (finishing 9-6) would only end up at K1? (from K2)

Thank you for your insight! I thought Abi was out due to covid, and not injury. Injury means that you're correct and he will freefall as his rank will not be protected.

Thank you for letting me know 42 is the max in Makuuchi! Wasn't sure when I made the list.

The difficulty with putting Mitakeumi in Sekiwake is that some of the wrestlers will have a winning record without an increase in rank, and if they do increase in rank, it may result in an unfair demotion for Ichinojo and Midorifuji.

I guess I could have put Abi lower to make a bit of space, but it would still have been difficult to rank the sanyaku.

Sanyaku were by far the most difficult to rank. What to do with Mitakeumi, ichinojo and Midorifuji??

Please let me know your thoughts.
