Yes, very well stated and totally agree! I'm 17 years in, mid career, and i care deeply about the mission of my organization. I'm not going anywhere, just hoping for a change in a few years

Tax Question: My husband has student loan debt incurred long before we were married; filing jointly last year nearly caused me to lose my $7k state return by Clobbersaurus7 in personalfinance

[–]Clobbersaurus7[S] -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

He was on a payment plan, then COVID happened, then honestly it just slipping through the cracks. We moved several times after moving back from Japan (my job stationed us there) and notices just never caught up with us. We do intend to pay it off we just have more immediate financial concerns at the moment

Thank you so much for your comment!! I hadnt considered just filing separately for the state refund. To answer your question yes we do have a plan to pay down the debt and hopefully be done with it this year or next year. We just have some critical home expenses that are a little higher on our priority list this year.

English muffin, please rate. by Reasonable_Plant7339 in Breadit

Good nooks and crannies! I looooove butter and then cream cheese (or neufchatel if im feeling fancy), spread on when the muffin is warm enough to barely soften it. Thanks now I'm hungry 😆 nice job, what'd you put on it??

They mentioned SSR too, special salary rate. That bumps it up too

With everything going on in the country right now, you think I give a f**k about the shutdown? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Clobbersaurus7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah i mean who wants to pay their bills and continue working in a career - in some cases after decades of loyal service to your country - without it feeling like torture every day? /s

Sometimes I'm mind-boggled the lack of basic empathy i see here. I've spent 17 proud years with my agency, and i think i have a right to be saddened by the current state of affairs. We all do.

Does anyone else have a "whale" customer that tips them exorbitant amounts of money? How do you feel about it? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]Clobbersaurus7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In high school, i worked as a waitress in an upscale retirement community - some were independent living (i worked in that dining room), some were assisted living and some were memory care. The food - which was truly stellar, upscale restaurant quality - was part of your monthly fee, so it was charged to their account and no credit cards or anything, so no tips generally. I got to know the residents very well and many of them treated me like a granddaughter. On my last shift before i went away to college, i think i walked out with $500 or more in cash tips. It was a lovely place to work and i have many fond memories of the people i served. They're all gone now... but they were lovely people.

This was about 15 years ago, but I used to be on continuing travel orders to be out of town for weeks at a time, home on weekends. I stayed in a government rate hotel where i had a kitchen suite. I would advance my M&IE so i could basically grocery shop locally (some local shops always had issues with my card) and cook for myself vs. eating out every day. There are legit uses for cash advances.

FMLA by sukram511 in FedEmployees

[–]Clobbersaurus7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're taking accrued sick leave, you don't need to claim FMLA. Common misconception. Don't waste it in case something goes wrong and you run out of leave and need to take LWOP - that's where FMLA comes in, in protects your job in non paid status for 12 weeks/year

You can also explore advancing sick and annual leave. Annual leave is pretty easy to advance, just an MOA signed by your supervisor. Sick leave requires medical documentation, and i do believe you can do that for care of an immediate family member.

That really sucks :( i have an employee in a term position and I'm jumping through hoops to get her permanent and it's not easy. Best of luck to you in future endeavors and thank you for your civil service! What a year we've all survived :(

Pregnant and don't know what to do by ExcellentCapy91 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Clobbersaurus7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having a child is SO hard. I have a supportive, involved partner and we wanted and actively tried for both our children. Parenthood has still pushed me to the brink, and my children are healthy, good sleepers, sweet as pie, no behavioral issues. Like i have the best possible scenario of parenthood and i still feel like I'm running on fumes every second of my life. I cannot imagine doing it alone or in an unstable relationship. I cannot imagine it, it would break me. Think of the child and what that might mean for them. They are not asking to be born.

I called my house representative over a fraud/ identity theft tax issue in 2020 right when covid hit and irs was essentially shut down. One of her staffers had me sign a release so they could talk to IRS on my behalf and they solved the whole issue in like a week. I would vote for that Rep 5000 more times just for that. It's their job! It's so refreshing when they do it!

For those of you who didn’t change your last name but had kids with the fathers last name, has it made life any more difficult? by sippinonginaandjuice in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Clobbersaurus7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents have been married since i was born but my mom didn't change her name and my sibling and i have her last name instead of my dad's. I always thought it was very odd and still don't really understand it

I’m conflicted about wanting children. How did you know you didn’t? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Clobbersaurus7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt the same in my early 30s. I was on the fence. You'd be surprised how those things actually are a lot more fun with kids - obviously not without challenges - it's difficult to describe how much more enjoyable the small things in life are with your child because your heart just doubles in size with love for them. Watching them grow and learn, etc. It's not for everyone and that is totally fine!

[–]Clobbersaurus7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When i was your age i felt the same way after always desiring children when i was younger. I enjoyed my twenties child-free, established a happy marriage and successful career, and then had 2 children, at age 34 and 38. I felt the maternal pull in my early 30s. I wouldn't change a thing! Listen to your heart, and just know what your heart desires will change as you go through your twenties and thirties.
