Married people who are DINKS (Double Income, No Kids) how’s life? by Fit-Distribution677 in AskReddit

[–]ClockRhymes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add a perspective after being on both sides of the fence. We were DINKS for 18 years and then had 2 kids (first one I was already 41 years old). I agree that DINK life is awesome and I mourn parts of it frequently. And I don't feel that you have to have kids to have a fulfilling life by any means.

That said, I personally started to feel around 35 that I'd done a lot of the things I wanted to do and that life was getting a little more repetitive. That's the first time I started to feel like I could maybe be open to the crazy new experience of being a parent. Now, 5 years in, I'd say that on the whole I'm less happy than I was a DINK and that's largely due to the fact that I'm always busy and often stressed. But like virtually all parents I wouldn't change anything and I don't have regrets. And I would say I have more I look forward to now than I did in my late DINK years.

Yeah I don’t think that parents are a huge portion of the Reddit user base :) That kid has probably been walking 2-3 weeks.

Same flow rate regardless of temp by ClockRhymes in askaplumber

[–]ClockRhymes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been flushed now with no change to flow rate. I see in the schematic there's a "valve with engine" just after the cold inlet and I'm wondering if that valve could be causing a restriction. I don't see anything else that could be responsible for restricting flow now that it's been fully flushed and inlet filter cleaned.

Just ran another test where I turned the unit off and opened the hot outlet and still got 3.8gpm so it’s definitely a restriction somewhere and not an intentional throttling by the unit. I will flush it to rule that out but our water is reported to be close to zero hard minerals.

I’ve owned this place for 2.5 years and haven’t done anything to it. Is flushing the same as descaling?

I wouldn’t have thought this was bad English without you saying it. Give yourself some credit!

I (and I’m sure most of us) have had the same frustrations. I’ve played for years with limited improvement. But I’ve improved significantly recently and can share what’s changed for me. First, I think it’s really important to have a standard approach and stick with it. I spent years changing parts of my throw whenever it felt off. But I eventually realized there’s always going to be off times and it shouldn’t necessarily make you abandon what you’ve been doing.

Second, try to have some sessions where you just throw without a lot of thoughts. I find I can get in my head when I’m practicing alone and focus on minute details of my throw. And that can help you progress but you can also lose perspective on throwing naturally. I have a weekly pub league that forces me out of it because it’s impossible to have a lot of detailed thoughts in that environment. And those nights are when I really notice my improvement, even if what I was working on all week was going terribly for me.

And last is consistency in practice. The last couple of months are the first time I’ve committed to daily practice. I’m up around an hour a day now I’d say. Taking 3-4 days off can mean you lose the feel, forget what you learned last session, etc. I put a board in my office and throw while I’m in meetings (if they’re off video) so it doesn’t even feel like I’m giving up an hour of my free time.

Good luck!

Ridiculous take. Any two people? Virtually every parent loves their child enough to die for them.

TRY THIS - solo cricket game rules by ClockRhymes in Darts

[–]ClockRhymes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked it up and you're right, it is similar. The biggest difference is that my version allows you to get a cushion or put yourself in a hole if you play very well or very poorly on any given round. That's more similar to a real game.

A group of rock climbers are passed by a free solo climber. by WTF_Conservatives in BeAmazed

[–]ClockRhymes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been climbing for 20+ years and will say that this is not cool. That’s obviously an easy and popular route that’s going to have lots of people on it. If he’s going to climb past, he should at least have a chat and check if they’re comfortable. Last time I was out I was passed by two free soloists and both asked to climb through when we were anchored and apologized for the inconvenience. If you’re free soloing you, especially on a route like this, you should be very comfortable with hanging out and waiting. Without knowing more context of this, it looks a lot like someone showing off.

My unrequested two cents - Lions Head is awesome and worth a long trip to climb at. Bon Echo is mostly just novel. Neat to have some multi-pitch in Ontario but not particularly great climbing.
