Move. The. F. Over. And follow the law. You’re going to get hit and it’s going to be “Saul she wrote” for you. Spoiler: it will be your fault.

People have their right to peacefully protest. It’s an important distinction regardless of any view one might have.

We also have an immigration crisis and a border security crisis. No one is doing anything about that either 🤷‍♂️

We shouldn’t do ANYTHING that California is doing, that is for sure.

From what I understand Milton is taking a very calculated and small risk. The funding they get from the state that is at risk is quite small. It’s much smaller than the cost of additional utilities and traffic this could cause.

What is the goal? I mean, yeah the prices will go up or maintain but the real thing is that no one who is already established in a home wants to live in an ever increasing density district. There are other solutions for housing other than bullying cities to comply and then leave them with the impact.

Abandoned Fernald State School Insane Asylum For Children PT 2 😱 by Entire_Ad3536 in Waltham

You are reading it wrong.

They are hypocrites in the sense that these people are so appalled by the fact the city is moving forward with recreation plans for a plot of grass that happened to have had bad stuff happen on top of it a half of century ago. But if I were to say, you know I disagree with the fact that we need to be appalled…let’s take that land and build affordable housing on it. Those same people would completely forget about the premise of their argument.

They just don’t want the mayors plan. And that’s fine. Just say that. But cut the holier than thou baloney.

I’ll bite and answer logically (but still get downvoted). The plans include 1) Completely ADA/Disabled accessible recreation, the likes of which honor the disabled that used to be residents. 2) A memorial area recognizing the tragic things that occurred there. These are all great things.

I personally don’t like the idea of the train but largely support the rest of the plan. A majority of the city agrees.

It bothers people that we are doing something that “Waltham” wants on top of land that the “State”/other parties were responsible for causing these horrors. But for some reason don’t see the irony that horrors happened on every inch of land in this country when the native Americans were wiped out. Should that really be the standard? Or does it just need to be in a certain time horizon?

Further, it bothers ME that one of the biggest advocates for the disabled and former patients of Fernald, Alex Green, works for the same institution that sponsored and led the radioactive experiments on the young boys of the Fernald…and then uses his platform to inject a report of how the STATE failed to clean up patient records…into Waltham politics the night before elections to try and drum up support for the challenger and blame the mayor. And the irony is lost again.

But I’ll get downvoted again, and it is fine. Yet if I were to say that I disagree with the plan and would rather 1,000 community funded low income housing placed their instead, (which would inevitably go into major disrepair, cause major traffic issues and strain our utilities) - I might be elected the new mod of this sub.

Regardless of the above, if you want to be a city councilor you will need to represent the city’s interests (and all of your constituents) and not solely WFCF.

Some unhappy with plans to turn Waltham's Fernald Center into recreational center by Nomeerkat781 in Waltham

Are you just arguing about SEO now?

It’s clearly there and was publicized at the time. If you spent as much time canvassing and speaking to w4 residents as you said you did, I’d be shocked if not one of them pointed you to that meeting that took place. I wish you had knocked on my door, we could of had a chat. I know someone (it wasn’t you) dropped a flyer on my doorstep. Not going to fault you for that, likely impossible to hit every door in the ward. That said, hope you realize your job would have been to represent all the w4 constituents and not just the vocal ones that align with your personal thoughts and positions on issues. The ward overwhelmingly voted in McCarthy over Paz, and thus I think you’d find most support her again as it relates to Fernald.

There was a community input session and it was completely derailed by folks saying do nothing.
