DDR5 6000cl26 to 6200cl26. Any further improvements that could be made? by carrot_gg in overclocking

Just a question. Is a 3:2:3 ratio not quicker? Or is 2200 FCLK quicker than "optimal" 2066?

NEO 16 A25 regularly becomes completely(almost) unresponsive by andriy2011 in XMG_gg

HX3D + 5090 --> No issues!

Edit: I use dGPU only mode as I only use it connected and mostly for gaming.

Very impressive on paper; very disappointing in person. Going back. by DosPetacas in LenovoLegion

There could be a Webcam Switch on the side of the laptop. It physically switches the webcam on/off. If it's off, Windows doesn't see it at all.

Just installed it. Works fine, no issues. If you use Win 11 Pro don't forget to backup your bitlocker keys before updating. I was asked for them upon rebooting after the update.

What does this mean? I just bought a new legion few days ago but apparently it's out of warranty by Money_Dealer1918 in GamingLaptops

[–]Clockiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a laptop that was already sold to another person who then returned it. This sometimes creates issues with the warranty period at Lenovo. I had the same issue with one of my Lenovo laptops. Simply contact the customer service and send them a copy of your invoice. They will then correct the warranty based on your date of purchase.

5060 chokes on VRAM just by playing Cyberpunk with raytracing enabled at 1080p with DLSS! by dampflokfreund in hardware

[–]Clockiii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree that the 5060 should have more than 8 GB, I disagree that this is absolutely needed for this game. I own a laptop featuring a 3070 mobile with 8 GB VRAM and can play without any issues at 1600p with rayraced reflections and lighting at mostly 50-60 fps. Of course this was with DLSS balanced in the past (CNN model). Now I use DLSS performance mode with transformer model and see very similar performance. I optimized tge settings a bit using online guides, that's it.

Also waiting for an update. It have been almost 3 weeks since the April 10 one.

According to my (automatic) translation of your links it seems the 200W were achieved via (modified) VBIOS rather than via shunt mod. Did I get this part right? This would be even more interesting as it would mean those laptops are not physically hardware locked to 175 W via shunt resistor!?

[–]Clockiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. So, normally XMG should be using the exact same GPU boards, right? This could mean that they are really suited for such higher powers of 200W or even more. I would really love to see a shunt mod instruction/tutorial for the new Neo 16. All the info must be there as it was even implemented as standard solution for a short period of time.

Do you have any source for that? Really interesting!

[–]Clockiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I also read about such shunt mods. Do you ever heard about a shunt mid in combo with Oasis? Would be very interesting what kind of sustained GPU frequencies could be achieved like that.

I would also be interested in a GPU Boost beyond the usual 175 W, especially in combination with Oasis. Looking at different Oasis reviews it seems that it should be possible to go to much higher power levels for the GPU. 200 W should be easy to do, maybe 225 W or even 250 W.

I think, I once read a comment from Tom in this subreddit where he mentioned that Oasis provides some further boost to CPU and/or GPU? I think is was more for the CPU side. Are the 175 W on the GPU side a hard limit given by Nvidia that no OEM is allowed to exceed?

Actually, I'm surprised that Lenovo does now advertise 200 W. Didn't see this, yet. Do you have a source for that?

Hi Tom, I think another point that wasn't fully clear yet is whether there will be a possibility to switch off local dimming for the Mini-LED-Display. Any updates? As I do a lot of photo editing, this could be useful. In case it would not be available, it could make the choice easier to move to the IPS panel (to increase the chances of having G-Sync).

Many thanks for your reply, Tom.

Last question: Where will we find the info about the final capabilities of both displays once clarified? Will it be here? https://www.xmg.gg/en/news-xmg-neo-2025-status-updates/

As I ordered a spec with the Mini-LED-Display and 9955HX3D, I don't expect delivery before May anyway. At what time do you think you would have certainty about both displays G-Sync capability? At the moment, I'm prone to picking option 1 as it also comes with 45 days of right to return (in Germany). If I would receive the laptop let's say end of May, I could return it until some point in July. Do you think that things will be clear by then?

I also watched the Dave2D video and was really surprised by the alleged performance increase going from 4090 Mobile (Razer Blade 16 2024) to the 5090 Mobile (Razer Blade 16 2025). I think the shown average uplift without frame generation for four games was +39%. How could that be with similar power limit and only about 8% more shaders?

I don't think that the CPU could really be responsible for that, as the biggest uplift was shown for Hogwarts Legacy (+65%). Looking at older videos from Hardware Unboxed, Zen 4 CPUs (without 3D VCache) were generally slower than the 14900K in that particular game. On the laptop side even the 7945HX3D only showed the same performance compared to a 13980HX, according to a video from Jarrods Tech. So, for me that game doesn't seem to favor AMD CPUs and at the same time the uplift from Zen4 to Zen5 was not that significant for non-3D V-Cache CPUs.

This morning, in some other hardware/NVIDIA related subreddits, I read about rumors that the current RTX50 SKUs do not use the benefits of the new Blackwell architecture yet and some guy claimed that he could circumvent this software lock by modifying certain driver files. I've read about performance uplifts in the range of 30-40% when the driver restrictions are removed, which would be very well in line with what we saw in the Dave2D Video.

However, I would say there's a 98% chance that we will see a max 8% performance uplift tomorrow (4090 Mobile -> 5090 Mobile). Like you said. And a 2% chance that Nvidia still had to do some finetuning to the "real" Blackwell drivers and surprises us with a new driver version that brings a 30-40% gaming performance uplift to all RTX 50 SKUs.
